Titan beetles are among the most mysterious creatures in the world, and also among the largest insect species, primarily inhabiting the rainforests of Colombia, Peru, Guyana, Ecuador, and north-central Brazil. Adult Titan beetles can reach 6.5 inches (approximately 16.7 cm) in length, and up to 8 inches (approximately 21 cm) in length if their antennae are included.

Titan beetles are said to have mandibles capable of biting through a pencil or cutting into human skin. Adult Titan beetles never eat; they simply fly around searching for mates and are easily attracted to bright light in the dark. Titan beetle larvae have never been discovered, but scientists believe that the larvae must live inside wood for several years before fully maturing, then pupating to become adults.

Titan beetles intimidate enemies by hissing and possess a hard exoskeleton and powerful mandibles. However, these large insects are reportedly unlikely to attack humans unless provoked.
