Southwest says: "Southwest my country is the origin of tea trees and the birthplace of tea." This statement covers a wide range, so it is more correct.

2. Sichuan theory: Gu Yanwu of the Qing Dynasty wrote in “Rizhilu”: “After the Qin people conquered Shu, the custom of drinking tea began.” The implication is that before the Qin people entered Shu, people in the area of present-day Sichuan already knew how to drink tea. In fact, Sichuan is in the southwest. If Sichuan says it is true, then the Southwest theory is true. Sichuan's approach is more "precise" than Southwest's, but the risk of being correct is greater.

3. Yunnan theory: It is believed that the Xishuangbanna area of Yunnan is the birthplace of tea trees. This area is the kingdom of plants, and it is entirely possible that there are native species of tea trees. However, this statement has "humanistic" risks, because tea trees can be native, while tea is the result of activated labor.

4. The Eastern Sichuan and Western Hubei theory: Lu Yu’s “The Classic of Tea” says: “The mountains and gorges of Bashan are so high that they require two people to embrace them.” The Bashan Gorge is now eastern Sichuan and western Hubei. There are such outstanding tea trees in this area, but there is no evidence that anyone has used them to make tea.

5. Jiangsu and Zhejiang theory: Some people have recently proposed that it began with the ancient Yue culture represented by the Hemudu culture. The Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas are currently the most developed regions in my country's tea industry. If history could take root here, it would be a very meaningful topic. In fact, I believe that in ancient times, there must have been tea trees of natural origin in more than one place. The custom of drinking tea may not necessarily develop in a place where there are tea trees. We mentioned earlier that tea was invented by Shennong, so where was it grown? If we find the intersection of the "original habitat of tea trees" and the "Shennong activity area", we may have the answer, or at least narrow the "range" of the answer.

There are many different opinions about the origin of tea drinking in China: Tracing back to the origin of Chinese tea drinking, some believe that it originated from the ancient Shennong, some believe that it originated from the Zhou Dynasty, and some believe that it originated from the Qin and Han Dynasties and the Three Kingdoms. The main reason for the different opinions is that before the Tang Dynasty, the standard character for "tea" was "荼". Lu Yu, the author of the Tang Dynasty's Tea Classic, reduced one stroke from the character "荼" and wrote it as "茶". Therefore, some people say that tea originated in the Tang Dynasty. But in fact, this is just a simplification of the characters, and people had already used the word "tea" in the Han Dynasty. Lu Yu only summarized the history and culture of tea drinking of our ancestors. The history of tea is many years earlier than the Chinese.
1. Shennong's Theory: In the Tang Dynasty, Lu Yu's "The Classic of Tea" wrote: "Tea as a drink originated from Shennong." In the history of China's cultural development, the origins of all things related to agriculture and plants are often attributed to Shennong. The claim that Chinese tea drinking originated from Shennong has also led to different opinions due to folk legends. Some people believe that tea was discovered by Shennong when he was boiling water in a pot in the wild. A few leaves happened to float into the pot. The boiled water was slightly yellow in color, and drinking it quenched thirst and refreshed the mind. Based on Shennong's experience of tasting hundreds of herbs in the past, he judged that tea was a medicine. This is the most common theory about the origin of tea drinking in China. Another theory is based on the pronunciation, saying that Shennong had a crystal belly, from which he could see the movement of food in his stomach and intestines. When he tasted tea, he found that the tea was flowing everywhere in his stomach, washing his stomach and intestines clean. Therefore, Shennong called this plant "Cha", which was later transformed into the word "Cha", which became the origin of tea.
2. The Western Zhou Dynasty: "Huayang Guozhi·Bazhi" by Chang Qu of Jin Dynasty: "King Wu of Zhou defeated King Zhou and actually captured the troops of Bashu,... and offered tea and honey... as tribute." This record shows that when King Wu of Zhou defeated King Zhou, the State of Ba had already offered tea and other precious products as tribute to King Wu of Zhou. "Huayang Guozhi" also records that there were artificially cultivated tea gardens at that time.
3. Qin and Han Dynasties: "Tong Yue" by Wang Bao of the Western Han Dynasty: The earliest reliable tea study data available today is from the Han Dynasty, with Tong Yue written by Wang Bao as the main basis. This article was written on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the third year of the Shenque reign of Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty (59 BC). It was the most important document in the history of tea studies before the Classic of Tea. The text describes the development of tea culture at that time. The content is as follows:
There are guests in the house. Carrying a pot and selling wine. Draw water for feeding. Wash the cups and tidy up the table. Picking garlic in the garden. Chop the garlic and cut the jerky. Build meat and taro. Stewed abalone with sashimi. All utensils for making tea. Feeding has covered the hidden. There is a tree behind the house. When it is cut into a boat. Go up to Jiangzhou. Next to the fried main. Asking for money for the government. Push spinning bad defeat. Silly Suomianting. To buy mats, I travelled to Duluo. We should seek fat and lubrication for women. Selling in small market. Return to the capital to carry the hemp. Turn out to be sideways. Leading cattle and selling geese. Buying tea in Wuyang. Yang is carrying loads in the pond. Going back and forth in the market. Be careful to protect against thieves.
In the "Book of Han·Geography", Yan Shigu's annotation of "荼" in "荼" is: pronounced as "yishe" in the reverse direction, and also pronounced as "zhangjia" in the reverse direction. This fanqie pronunciation is the current pronunciation of the word "tea". Judging from this phenomenon, the pronunciation of the word "tea" was established earlier than the shape of the word "tea".
