In April, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 41.728 million units, with 5G mobile phones accounting for nearly 40%

Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology show that in April 2020, the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market reached 41.728 million units, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. Among them, the shipments of 5G mobile phones in the domestic market that month were 16.382 million units, accounting for 39.3% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period.

Data shows that in April, 48 new models of mobile phones were launched in China, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%. From January to April, a total of 137 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 18.0%; the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market totaled 90.681 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 20.1%.

In April, 22 new 5G mobile phone models were launched, accounting for 45.8% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to April, the cumulative shipments of 5G mobile phones in the domestic market reached 30.441 million units, and the cumulative number of new models launched reached 65, accounting for 33.6% and 47.4% respectively.

In terms of brand composition, in April 2020, domestic brand mobile phone shipments reached 37.982 million units, up 11.9% year-on-year, accounting for 91.0% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 44 new models were launched, up 25.7% year-on-year, accounting for 91.7% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to April, domestic brand mobile phone shipments totaled 81.033 million units, down 22.7% year-on-year, accounting for 89.4% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 123 new models were launched, down 16.3% year-on-year, accounting for 89.8% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.
