iOS market share rises by the end of 2022, Android slightly down

iOS's market share has risen in the last quarter of 2022 after the successful launch of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max. This model was singled out because the vanilla model did not perform well. Meanwhile, Android has lost some ground.

The smartphone market is fairly stable right now, so the movement is relatively small, with iOS still just below the 30% mark and Android just above the 70% mark, according to Statista. It’s a two-horse race, with several competitors trying to enter the market but failing after the death of the old guard.

The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max brought the first major camera improvements in several years and a new dynamic island design, enticing more people to upgrade.

However, refined design and the first high-resolution camera aren’t the only reasons for iOS’ rise. Edith Reads, an analyst at StockApps, wrote: “Apple has made progress in the mobile market thanks to its focus on customer experience, innovative design, and premium products. With the launch of its new flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has given itself a competitive advantage and attracted more users to its platform. Android is losing market share in key markets such as China due to a lack of innovation and fragmentation, which has led customers to turn to Apple.”

Apple is the largest foreign smartphone brand in China, and with Huawei's recent decline (due to trade sanctions), the two companies are neck and neck. Although, as StockApps points out, Android's openness allows companies to customize the operating system to their needs and carve out a niche for themselves in the market.
