Apple’s new feature is gone in the iOS 17 beta version!

Recently, the topic of "Apple will prevent users from installing the beta version of iOS17 for free" has been reported, sparking heated discussions among netizens.

The incident started because Apple added a new feature in the iOS 16.4 beta. After the upgrade, a new option will appear in the software update in the iPhone's Settings app. This option is mainly used as a Beta update menu, which allows members of the Apple Developer Program to enable it directly on iPhone devices without having to obtain the installation description file through the web.

This feature makes it easier for developers to get the iOS developer beta, but it will also be the only way for them to get the configuration profile. For ordinary users, it is a restriction and they can no longer install the iOS developer beta through the profile.

After this new feature is officially launched, users can find this new feature option in the software update after logging in to the Apple ID registered for the Apple Developer Program on their iPhone. However, the access rights to the description files of the new system configuration will not be accessible, that is, after this feature is officially implemented, users will not be able to obtain Apple's configuration description files on some websites such as BetaProfiles.dev.

Many users also suspect that Apple's move is to make more money, because it costs $99 per year to register for Apple's developer program, preventing ordinary users from upgrading to the iOS beta system for free and earning annual fees.

Prior to this, in order to reduce the number of ordinary users who can obtain the developer version, Apple also cracked down on some websites that share description files. The configuration file website BetaProfiles.com became Apple's target, and in order to avoid lawsuits, the website also chose to close.

Apple said that the purpose of doing so is mainly to better distinguish between developer users and ordinary users. The developer beta version is used to test vulnerabilities. The version itself has many instabilities and is generally not recommended for main machine updates.

Although ordinary users cannot download the developer beta version, everyone can still install the public beta version, which is generally one day later than the developer beta version. But for early versions, Apple will first launch several developer beta versions before providing a public beta version. For example, for the upcoming iOS 17 series, after the WWDC23 conference in June, Apple will push the first iOS 17 developer beta version, but the first public beta version will not be pushed until July.

For users who prefer stability, it is most stable to choose the public beta version or official version provided by Apple. Friends who like to try new things may not have a chance.
