What is the difference between unemployment insurance and unemployment benefits? Can they be received at the same time?

Friends who participate in social security during work and pay the five insurances and one fund normally can receive unemployment insurance benefits if they become unemployed. However, everyone should have also paid attention to the news about unemployment benefits recently. Many friends don’t understand what the difference is between the two? Can I receive them at the same time?

Unemployment insurance benefits are commonly known as "unemployment benefits" and are regular unemployment insurance benefits; while unemployment subsidies are a temporary, phased measure newly introduced by the State Council during the epidemic prevention and control period, and the application deadline is December 31, 2020.

The conditions for applying for unemployment insurance benefits include: the employer and the individual have paid unemployment insurance premiums for a cumulative year before becoming unemployed, or it has been less than one year but the individual has a period for receiving unemployment insurance benefits; the employment was interrupted not due to the individual's will; the unemployment registration has been completed and there are job search requirements.

The general conditions for applying for unemployment benefits are that you have paid unemployment insurance and are currently unemployed. The specific implementation policies may vary from place to place.

Differences in issuance standards

Unemployment insurance benefits: paid at a level lower than the local minimum wage standard but higher than the minimum living standard for urban residents, for a maximum period of 24 months. During the period of receiving the benefits, you can also enjoy other unemployment insurance benefits.

Unemployment benefits: The standard is no higher than 80% of the local unemployment insurance, and the payment period is 6 months. During the period of receiving the benefits, you will not be entitled to unemployment insurance, payment of basic medical insurance premiums, funeral subsidies and pensions.

The difference between the collection period and the payment period

Unemployment insurance benefits: For those who receive unemployment insurance benefits, unemployment insurance benefits will be paid monthly. If the unemployed person's unit and the unemployed person have paid premiums for a total of one year but less than five years in accordance with regulations before becoming unemployed, the maximum period for receiving unemployment insurance benefits is 12 months. Among them, those who have paid premiums for a cumulative period of one year or more can receive three months of unemployment insurance benefits. For every additional year of cumulative payment time, three months of unemployment insurance benefits will be added. For cumulative payment time of 5 years or more but less than 10 years, starting from the 5th year, one month of unemployment insurance benefits will be added for every additional year of cumulative payment time, and the maximum period for receiving unemployment insurance benefits is 18 months. For cumulative payment time of 10 years or more, the period for receiving unemployment insurance benefits is 24 months.

Unemployment benefits: Unemployment benefits can only be applied for once, and you will not be entitled to unemployment benefits in the month of participation in the insurance. The maximum period for receiving the payment is 6 months, calculated from the month when the unemployed person meets the requirements, and paid out monthly and credited to the account the following month. (Note: Applications must be submitted before December 31, 2020. Applications submitted after the deadline will no longer be accepted.)
