How to attract traffic to Tik Tok? Practical tips from registration to popularity!

There are many channels for attracting traffic now, but not all platforms are suitable for it, so I will focus here and only talk about one platform: TikTok.

Basically, our team rarely works on other platforms now and focuses all our energy on Douyin.

So this time I will write a tutorial related to Tik Tok, including account registration, account maintenance, traffic generation, and account positioning.

Everyone can see how popular short videos are now. Douyin has 300 million monthly active users, which basically covers all groups of people and is suitable for all industries. Therefore, it has become a hot commodity in the eyes of marketers.

Here’s how to do it.

The first step is to register a TikTok account:

Some people may not care much about account registration, but in fact, this first step also has a lot of "requirements".

When using TikTok, remember one thing: one device, one card, one number.

How do you understand this sentence?

This means that one mobile phone can only be used to log in to one account and can only use one network. (Cannot log in using wifi)

If you want to operate multiple Douyin accounts at the same time, you must be careful not to register a large number of accounts with the same mobile phone.

If you have N accounts registered on one mobile phone, then congratulations, there is a high possibility that these accounts will be GG.

After registering an account, the next step is to maintain the account

The principle of maintaining an account is to make Douyin treat you as a normal user rather than a marketing account simply for attracting traffic. (It is said that accounts that have been maintained are more likely to become popular than accounts that have not been maintained)

Therefore, in order to increase the probability of your account becoming popular, it is best not to rush to publish works, but to maintain the account.

Although many people can become popular without maintaining an account, as the saying goes: details determine success or failure. In order to ensure the effect, after I register a new account, I usually maintain the account before posting my work.

The specific steps to maintain an account are as follows:

Watch videos and comment on works

Treat yourself as a normal user, like, comment and forward other people's works, and watch videos for at least one hour every day. A newly registered account will be able to publish works after about five days of watching.

Attention to details:

Regarding likes: The recommended frequency of likes is 1:10, or more. Avoid liking too frequently.

About comments: Comments must be able to attract other people to reply. If others do not reply, it will not be counted as a valid comment.

About swiping videos: When swiping videos, you must not swipe too fast. You must wait until the video is played once (or 2 or 3 times) before swiping to the next one. If you swipe too fast, it will not be counted as a valid play number.

Why raise an account?

As mentioned earlier, the purpose of maintaining an account is actually to avoid the TikTok system from judging us as marketing accounts.

A normal user will definitely watch videos, like them, and play them.

If a newly registered account publishes works without doing anything, it will easily be identified as a marketing account, and it will be even more difficult for you to become popular.

After completing the account maintenance, you can publish your works. At this time, you need to position your account.

Account positioning:

What is account positioning?

Account positioning, to put it bluntly, is to maintain the verticality of the account.

That is: whatever type of account you want to be, just keep posting videos of that type.

For example, if you want to create a weight loss account, you can post videos about weight loss tutorials, fitness, etc., but you must not post works such as cooking and food tutorials. It is a taboo for one account to post works across fields.

Why do I say so?

First, posting content randomly will make users feel that you are unprofessional, which is not conducive to later monetization.

Second, the current algorithm of Douyin is "interest recommendation", and vertical content helps the system determine your account type.

Let's take an intuitive example:

If the system determines that your account is a fitness account, based on Tik Tok's interest recommendation mechanism, your video will definitely be recommended by the system to users who like fitness. In this way, the chances of your work becoming popular will be much greater, because your readers all like fitness, and they will be more likely to like your work;

On the other hand, if your Douyin account posts a fitness video today and a cooking video tomorrow, the system cannot even identify the type of your account. How can it recommend works to accurate users? If a fitness video is recommended to a group of mothers who like cooking, can this video still become popular?

Friends who have worked in self-media know that self-media platforms all have the concept of verticality. Douyin, which is also owned by ByteDance, has the same recommendation mechanism as Toutiao, so the verticality of the account must be ensured.

About release time:

Since I come from a self-media background, I will try my best to choose a relatively appropriate time to publish my works.

From the user's perspective, when users spend the most time on Douyin is also the best time for us to publish.

Most people work from 9 to 5, so 11 a.m. (lunch) and 6 p.m. (dinner) are relatively good times to post.

So the best time to post, in my opinion, is between 10-11 am and 5-6 pm.

Although there is no direct relationship between release time and whether it will be popular, details determine success or failure. There is no harm in doing every step well.

Of course, the specific release time depends on your account type.

The time period I am talking about here refers to the time when most people are more available, which does not apply to all industries.

If your users' schedules are different from the ones I mentioned, you should still choose a suitable time to publish your work based on when your readers are more likely to visit you.

Tik Tok’s recommendation mechanism:

Friends who have worked in self-media should all be clear about the recommendation mechanism for self-media works. Many people should know this, so let me briefly explain it.

1. Interest recommendation

The popularity of Tik Tok is largely due to its recommendation mechanism, that is, it recommends content based on what users like.

For example: If you often like pet videos, then Douyin will often push pet-related videos to you. Based on this recommendation mechanism, our account will have the concept of "positioning".

2. Traffic pool

This is a recommendation algorithm currently used by many information flow platforms, and Douyin is no exception.

That is: show your work to a small number of users first, such as 100 people;

If the feedback of the work is good, then the system will give your work more recommendations: 1,000 people;

Repeat this cycle until your work is actually sold.

So what data are related to becoming popular?

4. Forward;

If these data are high, they can reflect whether your work is interesting and worth watching, so you need to pay attention to these four data.

How to attract traffic on Tik Tok:

At present, the methods of attracting traffic to short videos are basically the same. If you can embed contact information in your work, embedded advertising is the best choice, such as Bilibili. If you cannot embed hard advertising in your work, then add contact information to your signature, or attract traffic through private messages.

Tik Tok currently does not allow hard advertising in works, so private messages + personalized signatures are still the main method.

How to do it?

This is very simple. Just add the corresponding advertisement in your information. For example, if you are a fitness person, you can write:

Fitness exchange, +Wei: xxx to receive information

Please note that you can use corresponding characters to represent words such as "WeChat" and "pure numbers" to avoid TikTok saying that you are sensitive.

Another way is to send a private message:

Private messaging is actually the mainstream way to attract traffic. This requires you to write your own script. After your work becomes popular, a large number of users will follow you. When users follow you, you can follow them and then send private messages to guide them to add WeChat. However, you also need to be careful not to send sensitive words.
