Beware! 4 people were poisoned! Just because they drank this soup...

Recently, the Panyu District Market Supervision Bureau received a clue of food poisoning and quickly launched an investigation. After investigation, it was found that Mr. Li and four other people had a meal in a private room of a private restaurant in Dashi. The dishes included "Jipu fish stewed with shredded radish soup". The "Jipu fish" used in this dish was actually live puffer fish (puffer) purchased and slaughtered by the merchant, and the merchant could not provide proof that the puffer fish involved was purchased from legal channels.

According to relevant regulations, the Panyu District Market Supervision Bureau quickly transferred the case to the public security organs to investigate their criminal responsibility and took administrative measures to prevent the venue involved from causing further social harm. Fortunately, Mr. Li and others received medical treatment in time and have been discharged from the hospital.

Hit! "Jipu fish" is actually pufferfish

Recently, Mr. Li and his friends had dinner at a private restaurant on Dashi Street in Panyu District. Soon after the meal, Mr. Li developed numbness in his hands, lips, and feet, as well as nausea and vomiting. Later, Mr. Chen and Mr. Lai, who were traveling with him, also developed similar symptoms. They felt something was wrong and immediately went to the hospital for treatment.

The hospital diagnosed that Mr. Li and his friends were poisoned by pufferfish toxin. After receiving the clue of food poisoning, the law enforcement officers of Panyu District Market Supervision Bureau quickly investigated the business. After investigation, Mr. Li and four others dined in the private room of the venue, and the dishes included "Jipu fish stewed with shredded radish soup". The "Jipu fish" used in the dish was actually live pufferfish (pufferfish) purchased and slaughtered by the business, and the business could not provide proof that the pufferfish involved in the case were purchased from legal channels.

According to Announcement No. 4 of 2004 of the former Ministry of Health and the Notice of the Office of the State Food and Drug Administration on Issues Concerning the Operation of Puffer Fish by Catering Service Providers, the state prohibits the operation of live farmed puffer fish and unprocessed whole puffer fish, and prohibits the processing and operation of all species of wild puffer fish.

The merchants involved in the case were operating live puffer fish of unknown origin, which is an act of operating food that the state has expressly prohibited from producing and operating for special needs such as disease prevention. They also caused the harmful consequence of puffer fish toxin poisoning to consumers, and are suspected of constituting a crime.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Law and the Criminal Law, the Panyu District Market Supervision Bureau quickly transferred the case to the public security organs to investigate its criminal responsibility and took administrative measures to prevent the venue involved from causing further social harm. Fortunately, Mr. Li and others received medical treatment in time and have been discharged from the hospital.

There is currently no specific antidote for puffer fish poisoning

In recent years, puffer fish poisoning incidents have occurred frequently. What exactly is puffer fish? Puffer fish may look cute and adorable, but in fact, it is highly poisonous and can be called "Breaking Bad"!

According to the Panyu District Market Supervision Bureau, puffer fish, also known as puffer fish, is commonly known as "good fish" or "chicken embrace (pu)" in Guangdong Province. Its ovaries, liver, kidneys, eyes, and blood contain highly toxins. If improperly handled or ingested by mistake, the result may be poisoning in mild cases and death in severe cases. There is currently no effective antidote or treatment, and the mortality rate after poisoning is relatively high.

Almost all species of pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin (TTX), a neurotoxin that is about 1,250 times more toxic than highly toxic cyanide. 0.5 grams can kill a human.

The chemical properties of pufferfish toxin are stable and heat-resistant. It cannot be destroyed even at 100℃ for 8 hours. Salting and sun exposure cannot destroy the toxin. It takes 120℃ for 1 hour to destroy the toxin. Spring and summer are the spawning season for pufferfish, and the toxicity is strongest at this time.

Puffer fish poisoning develops rapidly and violently, with an incubation period generally ranging from 10 minutes to 3 hours. Early on, patients experience thirst, numbness and tingling in the fingers, mouth, lips, and tongue, followed by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms. Numbness in the mouth and lips worsens, making it difficult to speak, movement disorders worsen, and limbs become paralyzed. Severe cases may lead to death from respiratory failure.

At present, there is no specific antidote for puffer fish poisoning. If the above-mentioned discomfort symptoms occur after accidentally eating puffer fish, you should promptly stimulate the posterior pharyngeal wall with your fingers or chopsticks to induce vomiting, go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible, and keep the suspicious food.

Do not catch, breed, produce, sell or eat puffer fish of unknown origin.

The Panyu District Food Safety Office and the District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau remind: The general public, agricultural product breeders, operators, catering units and other individuals and units are requested not to catch, breed, produce, sell or eat puffer fish of unknown origin on their own.

Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Bureau issued a food safety risk warning, reminding consumers not to buy, catch or eat wild puffer fish, or buy or eat whole puffer fish or puffer fish products processed by agricultural product processing companies that have not been approved by the state. Food operators selling live puffer fish, wild puffer fish and their products, and catering service units processing and producing live puffer fish and wild puffer fish are all illegal and will be punished by law.
