In early 2021, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) released the latest global cancer burden data for 2020.

Data show that in 2020, there were 19.29 million new cases of cancer worldwide, including 1.09 million cases of gastric cancer; 9.96 million deaths from cancer, including 770,000 deaths from gastric cancer.

In 2020, China had 4.47 million new cancer cases, 480,000 of which were gastric cancer; 3 million cancer deaths, 370,000 of which were gastric cancer. The incidence and mortality rates of gastric cancer in my country rank third among all cancers, and are showing a trend of younger patients.

So how can young people prevent stomach cancer?

1. Avoid smoking and drinking

Whether you are a patient with any disease or an ordinary healthy person, you should quit smoking and drinking.

The stomach is an organ that holds food and completes the initial digestion of food. Food and water ingested by the human body are temporarily stored in the stomach. The stomach is also the main organ for alcohol absorption. When alcohol is ingested, most of it is absorbed into the blood through the stomach. If you drink alcohol for a long time, it will cause damage to the gastric mucosa and chronic gastritis. If chronic gastritis is not treated, it will develop into gastric cancer!

Tobacco and alcohol are harmful to every organ and tissue in our body. Nowadays, young people have a lot of social engagements and parties, and during these events, they inevitably drink and chat, which over time causes irreversible damage to our stomach.

Therefore, for the sake of our health, please quit smoking and drinking immediately!

2. Dietary Rules

Today's life is stressful and the social pace is fast, which causes many friends to have irregular eating and living habits, such as skipping breakfast for a long time and overeating.

Skipping breakfast for a long time is harmful to the human body. After a night of rest and emptying, the stomach is almost empty when you wake up in the morning. If you do not take in food, the digestive juice stored in the stomach will corrode the gastric mucosa and cause gastritis, which will turn into gastric cancer in the long run.

It is not good not to eat, and it is not good to eat too much! Some friends may overeat when they encounter their favorite food, which is not good for the health of the stomach. As a storage organ, the stomach has limited tolerance. If you overeat and exceed the stomach's capacity, it will also cause damage to the stomach.

3. Eat less food that hurts your stomach

Nowadays, there are many kinds of food. In order to satisfy your taste buds, there is no flavor that a chef cannot make, only flavors that you cannot imagine.

Some foods are made to taste more delicious, so they are filled with a lot of spices, such as chili peppers, peppercorns, etc. These foods have a strong irritating effect on the gastric mucosa and can cause superficial gastritis! Some friends may have had this experience: after eating particularly spicy food, they will feel pain from the mouth to the stomach. This is a violent reaction of the digestive tract to the irritant.

Therefore, for the sake of our health, we should eat less food that hurts the stomach, such as spicy and greasy food, and eat more food that nourishes the stomach, such as vegetables and fruits.

4. Regular physical examination

In disease prevention and treatment, we emphasize "three earlys", namely early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, and these three earlys must rely on physical examinations!

Unfortunately, many people do not have the habit of physical examinations, which is very detrimental to disease prevention. I have seen many cases in my work where they just don’t go for physical examinations, and when there are minor problems, they resist them, and when they can no longer resist, they go for examinations, and the disease is already in the late stage.

The stomach is a relatively active organ, unlike the liver which is an inert organ. When there is acute gastritis or chronic gastritis, there will be symptoms such as pain, belching, indigestion, and poor appetite. If the above symptoms occur, you should go for a check-up in time. The stomach check is also very simple, just do a gastroscopy.
