A stuffy and runny nose is never good, you may have fallen into these three misunderstandings!

A stuffy and runny nose is never good, you may have fallen into these three misunderstandings!

When spring comes and flowers bloom, it is finally time to take off your heavy coats and go to the park with a few friends to enjoy the flowers. It is a beautiful thing.

However, the nightmare of some friends has started again! For a month, they have blue eyes, runny noses, constant sneezing, and nasal voices when speaking. It is so difficult...

Do you think it's just a cold that won't go away? In fact, it could be allergic rhinitis.

In order to solve allergic rhinitis, friends have come up with various tricks:

But there are some pitfalls that we advise you to be careful of...

01

Drug abuse

Some friends with allergic rhinitis try all kinds of desperate methods, such as asking agents to buy foreign nasal sprays and trying various folk remedies recommended by relatives and friends.

The editor has used a nasal spray purchased from a purchasing agent. The effect was very good at first, but over time the effective time of the nasal spray became shorter and shorter, and her nose started to feel uncomfortable again.

I want to emphasize here that you should not use foreign medicines indiscriminately. It is very dangerous if you cannot understand the instructions!

Many nasal drops and nasal sprays purchased by agents actually have nasal antihistamines and nasal decongestants as their main ingredients. Decongestants are very effective in relieving nasal congestion in the short term, but frequent or long-term use can easily lead to rebound nasal mucosal congestion and cause drug-induced rhinitis.

As for various folk remedies, it is not recommended that you try them casually. They may be useless and delay treatment.

02

No medication required

Some friends went to the other extreme.

Although mild allergic rhinitis only causes sneezing and runny nose, it may eventually worsen and lead to asthma if not treated.

Therefore, everyone must take it seriously and take medication as prescribed by the doctor.

And parents will worry about——

The hormones used to treat allergic rhinitis are sprayed into the nose, and the hormone content in one spray is measured in micrograms.

These hormones almost all act locally on the nasal mucosa and rarely enter the blood circulation to cause systemic adverse reactions.

This is just an example, not a recommendation.

Studies have also shown that intranasal corticosteroids are a safe and effective treatment for children 2 years of age and older.

It is important to emphasize here that if you suspect your child has rhinitis, you must take him/her to see a doctor first, and any medication should be used according to the doctor's advice.

03

Treat as a cold

This is also the pitfall that the editor who wishes to remain anonymous has fallen into.

"At first I thought it was because I was wearing too little and had a runny nose, so I started drinking cold medicine, but it didn't get better. I had a dizzy head every day during class. Later I went to the doctor and had a check-up, only then I found out that I had rhinitis caused by pollen allergy, not a cold!"

In fact, it is not difficult to distinguish between colds and allergic rhinitis. Their causes, symptoms, duration, etc. are different. You can make a simple judgment first.

If you think you may have allergic rhinitis, be sure to go to the ENT department of a regular hospital in time for medical treatment, don't delay!

ps. In addition to colds, allergic rhinitis has similar symptoms to some other diseases, such as vasomotor rhinitis, infectious rhinitis, etc., so be sure to ask a doctor for a diagnosis and don’t guess!

04

What to do?

1. Stay away from allergens

The best way to overcome allergic rhinitis is to face it and stay away from allergens.

It sounds easy, but it’s really not easy to stay away from allergens!

After all, no one can live in a glass cover. Pollen and dust mites really get into your nose...

Friends who are allergic to pollen can close doors and windows during the pollen season, wear masks when going out, and try to stay away from flower beds.

If you are allergic to dust mites, you should clean your room more often and change your bed sheets and pillowcases frequently.

2. Nasal irrigation

Nasal saline irrigation is often used as an adjunctive treatment for inflammatory conditions of the nose and sinuses.

Using normal saline for nasal irrigation can remove irritants, allergens, and inflammatory secretions from the nose, thereby reducing nasal mucosal edema.

Overall, nasal irrigation is a safe, convenient and inexpensive auxiliary treatment method for people with rhinitis.

Note: You should buy a professional nasal rinser and nasal rinse solution. Do not mix table salt with water yourself. Inappropriate salt concentration will irritate the nasal mucosa and cause other problems.

3. Exercise more

For some people, exercises such as jogging and swimming can relieve the nasal congestion symptoms of allergic rhinitis to a certain extent.

Finally, I wish you all say goodbye to nasal congestion and breathe smoothly as soon as possible!

The considerate father has previously reviewed the soft tissues that are popular with rhinitis patients. If you keep blowing your nose and your nose is about to break, don't miss it.
