The reporter learned from the forward command post at the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,200 meters that the Chinese scientific expedition team successfully set up an automatic weather observation station at an altitude of more than 8,800 meters on Mount Everest, and the weather station has successfully transmitted real-time data. This is the highest automatic weather observation station in the world and the last weather station set up in the "Peak Mission" Everest scientific expedition.

What is the "Peak Mission" mission?

The "Peak Mission" Mount Everest scientific expedition was fully launched on April 28 this year. A total of 5 scientific expedition teams, 16 scientific expedition groups and more than 270 scientific expedition members participated. This is the most comprehensive scientific expedition with the widest subject coverage, the largest number of participating scientific expedition members, and the most advanced instruments and equipment since the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition in 2017. It is a feat of mankind to carry out comprehensive scientific investigation and research at extremely high altitudes in the Mount Everest area.

What are the tasks of the scientific expedition to the summit?

The 12 scientific expedition members will work together with the forward command post at the Everest Base Camp to complete the most critical and challenging peak expedition mission, including setting up the world's highest automatic weather station at an altitude of 8,800 meters; using high-precision radar to measure ice and snow thickness and collect ice and snow samples for the first time at the top of the earth, and conducting experiments on the human body's extreme high altitude adaptation mechanism.

The expedition team members have to climb to an altitude of 5,800 to 6,700 meters to carry out scientific research work such as drilling ice cores, measuring ice thickness with ice radar, and collecting snow samples. Therefore, the road to the seracs forest at the Dongrongbuk Glacier from 5,800 meters above sea level is a road that the extremely high-altitude expedition team must experience together.
