After the summer solstice, we enter the hottest period of the year.

Hot weather can easily cause excessive sweating and poor appetite. In addition, summer has a lot of rain and hot and humid weather, which can easily cause various discomfort symptoms due to the disorder of human metabolism.

As the temperature rises and the summer heat invades, people often feel bored, have a poor appetite, suffer from insomnia, become irritable, feel heavy in the head and body, etc. It is important to adjust your lifestyle and maintain your health properly.

10 taboos you must not commit!

1. Avoid opening windows for ventilation

In summer, many people are afraid of the heat and close the windows and turn on the air conditioner indoors.

In fact, a humid, stuffy, and poorly ventilated indoor environment can easily cause heatstroke. Moreover, if you use air conditioning without opening windows for ventilation, the air quality will deteriorate and cause illness.

2. Avoid: Eating overnight food frequently

In summer, some leftover cold dishes are often eaten the next day because they are not willing to be thrown away. However, this can easily affect health.

In the summer, if leftovers are left for a long time, harmful substances will easily be produced, which may cause mild symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, etc., or even worse, it may lead to food poisoning and other problems.

3. Avoid drinking water when you are thirsty

In the summer, we sweat a lot and get thirsty easily. Many people pick up a cup and gulp down water, but this is also the wrong way.

Huang Li, chief physician of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said that drinking too much water at one time will quickly enter the blood, causing an increase in blood volume, which can easily increase the burden on the heart and cause symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. Especially for people with poor heart function, when the weather is hot, the blood vessels of the human body are in a state of expansion. Suddenly drinking a lot of water may cause the blood vessels to contract rapidly, leading to insufficient blood supply to the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular vessels, causing angina pectoris and even heart failure.

In summer, you should drink water in small amounts and multiple times, about 200 ml each time (one ordinary teacup). Don't wait until you are thirsty to drink water.

4. Don’t drink cold drinks all the time

Cold drinks that hurt the stomach are a must-have for relieving summer heat, but if you keep drinking cold drinks for a long time, your stomach and intestines will not be able to bear it.

Chen Jihong, former chief physician of the Department of Gastroenterology at Wuhan University People's Hospital, pointed out that a large amount of cold drinks entering the gastrointestinal tract will interfere with the normal peristalsis of the stomach and intestines, leading to digestive dysfunction, causing functional dyspepsia, affecting gastrointestinal blood supply, and weakening the self-repair ability of the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier. In severe cases, it can also induce abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome and other discomforts.

Patients with coronary heart disease and hypertension should not drink cold drinks, because large amounts of cold drinks can cause vasoconstriction, increase blood pressure, and coronary artery constriction can induce angina pectoris.

5. Avoid: Taking a cold shower

In the hot summer, taking a cold shower can certainly lower the body temperature, but it is not suitable for everyone.

Huang Li, chief physician of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, explained that after sweating in the summer, the pores are all open, and it is easy to catch a cold if you rinse with cold water at this time.

Under the stimulation of cold water, blood vessels contract rapidly, which can also cause increased blood pressure and insufficient blood supply to the heart, especially in the elderly with high blood pressure. Taking a cold shower can also easily induce respiratory diseases such as asthma and tracheitis, as well as gastrointestinal diseases.

6. Taboo: Staying still and cooling down naturally

Chen Yanqing, chief physician of the Department of Prevention and Treatment of Diseases, pointed out that the lifestyle of most modern people is to eat more and exercise less.

In hot weather, many people believe that "calmness naturally cools down" and sit in a state of meditation for a long time. In fact, in the cool mornings and evenings in summer, it is also necessary to do appropriate exercise to maintain normal metabolism and enhance cardiopulmonary function, such as exercising outdoors for half an hour. The elderly can choose gentle exercises such as Tai Chi and yoga, and young people can play basketball and football to achieve the effect of sweating.

7. Taboo: Not taking a break at noon

Xing Junwu, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology, pointed out that in summer, the days are long and the nights are short, and many people will gradually feel that they do not get enough sleep at night. After a busy morning of study and work, the consumption of physical strength and energy can be imagined. Therefore, in summer, naps also play a key role in disease prevention and health preservation.

8. Avoid: single food with insufficient nutrition

In summer, people sweat a lot, consume a lot of energy, and are easily tired and have no appetite. Many people choose to eat some fruits and vegetables. If you don't eat well, your nutrition is insufficient, and your immunity is reduced, it may lead to illness.

Huang Lianzhen, professor of the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene at Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, said that no matter how hot the weather is, you should eat some lean meat, fish, soy milk, eggs, etc. If you have a poor appetite, you can change your taste and eat lotus root, winter melon, loofah, watermelon, lentils and other foods.

9. Avoid: The air conditioner temperature is too low

Many people like to turn on the air conditioner all night when they sleep, but this is very harmful to your health.

Chen Yanqing, chief physician of the Department of Prevention and Treatment of Diseases, said that setting the air conditioner temperature too low or leaving it on all night will lead to a decline in the function of the body's temperature regulation center and obstruction of blood circulation on the body's surface, making it easy to develop colds, headaches, nasal congestion, facial paralysis and other symptoms.

10. Avoid being too emotional

Xu Tao, deputy chief physician at the Hebei Provincial Mental Health Center, pointed out that when the temperature exceeds 35°C, the sunshine exceeds 12 hours, and the humidity is higher than 80%, the human body will be in an irritable state, and the incidence of "emotional heatstroke" will increase significantly. For example, because of a harsh word or an unpleasant thing, people will be extremely angry, hurt others, punch others, and lose control of their behavior. Therefore, in summer, we should not only prevent physical heatstroke, but also "emotional heatstroke".

You can call others to talk and express your emotions, or do something else that interests you, especially young people can participate in some sports activities to shift their attention from worrying about failure to taking positive actions and striving for success.

Key points to remember in summer health care

1. Drink a bowl of soup

Xiang Daochun, a doctor from the Department of Pharmacy of Wuhan Central Hospital in Hubei Province, introduced that drinking more mung bean soup in summer can not only replenish water, but also replenish inorganic salts and dietary fiber, which helps maintain electrolyte balance in the body.

There are some tips when cooking mung bean drinks: first, do not peel the skin, as the mung bean skin contains a lot of nutrients; second, do not cook it for too long; third, to reduce oxidation, it is better to cover the pot; fourth, try to avoid cooking in an iron pot.

2. Eat a melon

Eating watermelon in summer can help with diuresis and digestion, especially for those who work outdoors or in high-temperature environments. Of course, although there are many benefits, you can't eat too much at one time, otherwise it will dilute the gastric juice and cause indigestion. At the same time, you should also be careful not to keep watermelon in the refrigerator for too long, as it is easy to breed bacteria and cause food hygiene problems.

3. Eat garlic

Summer is the period when microorganisms and bacteria grow most vigorously. Coupled with the high temperature and humidity in summer, food is very easy to spoil. Some people with poor gastrointestinal function are particularly prone to diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Nutritionist Zhou Fengling reminds that if you eat garlic regularly, garlic has bactericidal and antibacterial effects, especially in summer it has an inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae in the intestines, and has a certain lethality.

4. Eat bitter melon

If you often don’t feel like eating on a hot day, you can eat something “bitter”.

Yu Kang, chief physician of the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said that the bitterness in bitter melon can stimulate gastric juice secretion and promote appetite. The fresh juice of bitter melon contains momordica charantia and insulin-like substances, which can regulate blood sugar.

However, people with stomach diseases or poor digestion and pregnant women should not eat it. In addition, if you can't stand the "bitterness", you can blanch the bitter melon in water for one minute to reduce the stimulation of the bitter taste.
