The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that from the night of the 25th to the 28th, a regional heavy rainfall will occur from the Sichuan Basin to North China, the Huanghuai region, and the central and southern parts of Northeast China.

Beijing, Tianjin and other cities need to strengthen urban flood prevention

This rainfall process has a wide range, the rain belt moves quickly, and is mainly convective rainfall. It will be the strongest rainfall process encountered in North China, Huanghuai and other places since the beginning of the flood season this year. Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Shenyang and other large cities need to strengthen the prevention of urban waterlogging, and Shandong, Henan, Hebei and other places should be alert to the possible sudden change from drought to flood caused by local heavy rainfall.

From the night of the 25th to the 28th, there will be moderate to heavy rain from west to east in eastern Gansu, central and southern Shaanxi, the Sichuan Basin, Henan, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, and southeastern Inner Mongolia.

Among them, there will be heavy rain in eastern Sichuan, Chongqing, southern Shaanxi, northern Henan, central and western Shandong, eastern Hebei, central and eastern Beijing, Tianjin, southeastern Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, and southeastern Jilin, with torrential rain in some areas.

There will be obvious thunder and lightning and short-term heavy rainfall during the rainfall period, with the maximum hourly rainfall of 50 to 70 mm. In the northern region, there will also be strong convective weather such as thunderstorms, gales or hail.

The rainfall progressed from west to east, with the heaviest period being from the 26th to the 27th. The specific periods of rainfall impact are:

Night of 25th to day of 26th: Sichuan Basin, Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan

Night of 26th to day of 27th: Sichuan Basin, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning

Night of 27th to 28th: ​​Northeast China, Shandong

Why is there such heavy rainfall in the north?

Experts said this round of heavy rainfall is a typical northern midsummer rainstorm process, with strong intensity and fast movement. The heavy rainfall is mainly convective rainfall, and there will be large-scale heavy rain near the low vortex. This will be the strongest rainfall process since the beginning of the flood season in the north, and we must be alert to the possibility of local extreme heavy rainfall.

Affected by the rainfall, the meteorological risk of local mountain torrents and geological disasters is high in southeastern Gansu, southern Shaanxi, northeastern and southern Sichuan, northern and western Chongqing, and northern Henan; the meteorological risk of local floods in small and medium-sized rivers is high in northern Henan, southern and eastern Hebei, and northern Shandong.
