How to determine whether there is a gas leak?

# Smell - Use your nose

Generally, odorizers are added to the gas for domestic use, which makes the gas smell like rotten eggs, making it easier to detect leaks. So if you notice a similar odor in your home, it may be a gas leak.

# Look - Check the gas meter

When no gas is used at all, check whether the number in the last red box of the gas meter is moving. If it is moving, it can be determined that there is a leak behind the gas meter valve (such as the hose and interface between the stove and water heater connecting the gas meter).

# Apply - spray with soapy water

Mix soap or washing powder with water to make soap liquid, and apply it to gas pipes, gas meter hoses, cock switches and other places prone to gas leakage to check whether there is a gas leak. If there is a gas leak, the soap liquid will be blown into foam. When you see foam generated and increasing, it means that there is a gas leak in that part. For extremely small leaks, it may not be observed, and the test results of professional detection tools should be used as the standard.

What should I do if I find a gas leak?

1. Ventilate immediately

Close the valve and report to the relevant department to find out the cause; repair the leak in time to avoid a serious accident. It is especially important not to turn on the exhaust fan for ventilation in a panic, ignoring that the exhaust fan is also powered. Open the window immediately for ventilation.

2. Do not turn on or off any electrical appliances

The connection of various electrical switches, plugs and sockets will generate sparks. At this time, if the combustible gas leaked indoors reaches a certain concentration, it may cause an explosion. Therefore, you should immediately go to the outdoor switch to cut off the power supply.

3. Don’t put on or take off clothes indoors

Putting on and taking off clothes will generate static electricity, especially for blended and nylon fabrics. Static electricity can also detonate a certain concentration of flammable gases in the air.

4. Do not use telephones or mobile phones

When powered on, tiny sparks may be generated inside telephones and mobile phones, which may cause explosions. You should move away from the scene before calling for help.

What should you do if you find someone suffering from gas poisoning?

Once someone is found to be suffering from gas poisoning, all doors and windows of the room should be opened immediately, the gas appliance switch should be turned off, and the person should leave the room and go outside to breathe fresh air or oxygen. Those with serious conditions should quickly leave the poisoning environment with the help of others, go outside to breathe fresh air or oxygen, and call 120 for emergency treatment as soon as possible.
