At present, there are 1.4 billion myopic patients in the world, and as many as 600 million of them in my country. Usually, myopia within 300 degrees is considered mild myopia, 300-600 degrees is considered moderate myopia, and more than 600 degrees is considered high myopia. There is a consensus in the medical community that high myopia has been listed as one of the most important causes of blindness. Therefore, myopic people must consciously control the increase of their myopia, pay attention to eye hygiene, and avoid developing high myopia. There are four major complications of high myopia: retinal detachment, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. The eyeball is divided into three layers: the first layer is the sclera, the middle layer is the choroid, and the innermost layer is the retina. The function of the retina is to sense light. After light enters the eye, the retina converts the light source into radio waves and transmits them to our brain, so that we can perceive the light. Retinal detachment: A normal eyeball is shaped like an apple, but as myopia increases, the patient's eyeball stretches outward and becomes grape-shaped. In severe myopia, the retina changes from a dense structure to a mesh-like structure, which allows some water to seep in and gradually tear the retina apart, interrupting the nutrient supply and causing the loss of vision. Macular degeneration: The macula contains very dense photoreceptor cells and is located in the center of the retina. When myopia is high, the retina becomes thinner, causing the choroid to be unable to provide nutrition to the macular area. Ischemia and hypoxia will cause choroidal neovascularization, leading to degeneration. Cataract: For people with high myopia, the age of cataract onset will be advanced to 40 or 50 years old. Cataract occurs in the lens, and the lens becomes cloudy and blocks light, resulting in foggy vision. Special reminder: there are two standards for blindness: one is that the visual acuity is less than 0.05; the other is that the visual field is less than 5 degrees. Retinal detachment, macular degeneration, and cataracts should be discovered and treated as early as possible. The visual field loss caused by glaucoma is irreversible, and early treatment can control the visual field loss. Suggestive symptoms of blinding eye disease If you feel your vision is distorted or cloudy, if there are dark shadows blocking your vision or if there are more dark shadows, if objects are moving more and more, or if you have flashing lights, you need to seek medical attention immediately. When exposed to sunlight, the human body produces retinal dopamine and other components, which can make the sclera harder and the retina less likely to become longer and thinner. Is an unhealthy spine the culprit for myopia? This statement is inaccurate. When the spine is in a normal physiological curvature with the head slightly tilted back, the veins, central nervous system, and vertebral arteries in the spinal canal are the most unobstructed. Long-term bowing of the head and high fatigue of the cervical spine will lead to insufficient blood supply to the brain, which will manifest as blurred vision, swollen eyes, and dizziness, but will not lead to myopia. Too little outdoor activity Working or studying in an environment with too much or too little light Lack of sleep Lying down and reading Excessive use of electronic products Sleeping with the lights on Special reminder: do not use electronic products for learning for more than 4 hours a day; do not use electronic products for entertainment for more than 2 hours a day. The "202020" rule for eye protection: after using your eyes for 20 minutes, look 20 feet (5 meters) away for 20 seconds.
