How dark is the darkest material in the world? It is said that even scientists cannot measure it

Recently, NASA has drawn the most accurate image of a black hole to date. The visual effect is very shocking, showing how extreme gravity distorts our view of light. When light is emitted from different areas of the disk, its path changes, making it seem to stand up and be seen by us.

△The gas near the black hole rotates at a speed close to the speed of light, and the further out it goes, the slower it rotates.

Due to the nature of black holes, they swallow light, so it is difficult to see them with the naked eye, and we can only understand them indirectly by observing their effects.

Scientists have created such a substance on Earth that cannot be seen by the naked eye. It can absorb almost all light and is known as the blackest material in the world. The most amazing thing about it is that it can make three-dimensional objects look like a "black hole".

This blackest substance is called Vantablack, also known as "Super black". When it covers the surface of an object, it looks like looking into a black hole.

◤How dark is Vanta Black? ◥

It can absorb 99.96% of ultraviolet rays, visible light and infrared rays, while traditional black pigments, fibers, etc. can only absorb 95% to 98% of light.

This means that if you cover the mountains with Vantablack, you would think you would see black mountains, but in fact all you would see is black, and the contours of the landforms would seem to have disappeared, leaving only a substance that looks like an abyss.

One of the statues has its face covered in Vanta Black, and when viewed from the front, you'll notice that all the facial details have disappeared.

Only when viewed from the side can you discern some outline of the statue's face.

◤How did this darkest black come about? ◥

The secret of the Vanta's extreme black is that it is made up of carbon nanotubes, each of which is only one ten-thousandth the thickness of a human hair. When light enters the gaps between the nanotubes, it is immediately captured and absorbed, so that the human eye cannot understand what it sees.

In addition to absorbing large amounts of light, the material is also very efficient at conducting heat - about seven times as efficient as copper - and 10 times as strong as steel.

◤After upgrading the blackness, scientists are unable to measure how dark it is◥

In 2016, the team that invented Vanta Black increased its blackness and claimed that even the world's most powerful spectrometer could not measure how much light this material can absorb.

Usually due to reflection, when an object is illuminated by a laser, the laser can be observed scanning across the surface of the object. This is the principle by which the eyes can recognize colors, and it is these colorful colors that create our world.

But when scientists shine a laser on this blackest material, the light spot disappears, which means that even the laser cannot pass through it.

The application prospects of this world's blackest material are very broad. It can be used in astronomical cameras, telescopes and infrared scanning systems. It can also reduce stray light and improve the ability of astronomical telescopes to observe the dimmest stars.

In the field of art, Vanta Black is only personal

Although there are no restrictions on the use of Vanta Black in industry and commerce today, in the field of art, it belongs exclusively to an artist named Anish Kapoor. As a participant in the research and development of the material, he enjoyed the exclusive personal right to use the material as early as 2014.
