my country's large-field survey telescope named "Mozi" can monitor the sky at high frequency all day long

Science Fiction Network, December 1 (Xu Mingyang) According to Science and Technology Daily, the large-field survey telescope jointly built by the University of Science and Technology of China and the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, after more than 9 months of solicitation, duplication checking, judges voting and expert discussion and evaluation, finally selected "Mozi" from the six shortlisted names of "Mozi", "Zhang Heng", "Guangmu", "Yan Jici", "Hanhai" and "Yaoguang".

The "Mozi" survey telescope is located at the Saishiteng Mountain Observatory in Lenghu, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. After completion, it will become an optical time-domain survey equipment with the highest survey capability in the northern hemisphere.

Time domain astronomy is an emerging research field in astronomy, and its main research objects are transient sources and violent explosive celestial bodies. The occurrence of such phenomena is difficult to predict, and in order to capture the signals in time, a large-field telescope is needed to conduct high-frequency all-sky monitoring.

In addition to building observatories at high altitudes with good observation conditions, many countries are now studying how to move astronomical telescopes into space, which can avoid the influence of the atmosphere on observation. China plans to launch its first space telescope in 2023 or 2024, which will become an important means for my country to understand the universe.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a well-known space telescope named after American astronomer Edwin Hubble. It has an aperture of 2.4 meters and a length of about 16 meters. On April 24, 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope, carrying a wide-field and planetary camera, a Goddard high-resolution spectrograph, a high-speed photometer, a dark object camera, and a dark object spectrograph, was successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Center in the United States by the Discovery Space Shuttle. In 2020, it discovered the most distant and oldest galaxy cluster known to date.

my country plans to launch the Sky Survey Optical Module in 2023, which is the Sky Survey Space Telescope. This space telescope weighs more than ten tons and is mainly composed of two parts: the Sky Survey Optical Facility and the Sky Survey Platform. The Sky Survey Space Telescope is characterized by its ability to see deeply, widely and precisely. Its breadth is more than 300 times that of the Hubble Telescope, and it can be upgraded in orbit.
