This bear who loves taking selfies took 400 beautiful photos of himself

You may have heard about a group of black crested macaques taking selfies, but they are not the only animals that love to take selfies. Recently, an American black bear discovered a wildlife camera in Boulder, Colorado, and left a lot of beautiful photos in front of the lens.

The camera was set up by the local Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP). When people sorted through the memory cards, they found that the camera had taken 580 photos, 400 of which were selfies of the bear .

The official also posted the bear's behavior on Twitter | twitter@boulderosmp

OSMP has set up a total of nine cameras on the more than 180 square kilometers of land it manages. Whenever an animal passes by, the camera will automatically take a photo , and if necessary, it can also take a half-minute video.

The cameras save the trouble of manual patrols, and people hope to use them to study how animals use the land. With these research results, relevant departments can protect those fragile wildlife habitats .

**The photos taken by these wild cameras are a valuable source of data for researchers. **In the IUCN rating system, many species are rated as "data-deficient", many of which are actually endangered species.

Monitoring a species in the wild or assessing its endangered status often consumes a lot of manpower and financial resources, and most resources are concentrated in protected areas, making it even more difficult to monitor other areas. Therefore, people have been trying to use methods such as field cameras and machine learning to count species to make up for the lack of data.

IUCN's rating is divided into 7 categories from Least Concern to Extinct, and there are two other categories: Data Insufficient and Not Assessed | IUCN redlist

Fortunately, the black bear in question is not an endangered species . The IUCN last rated the American black bear (Ursus americanus) as Least Concern (LC) in 2016, and believes that its population is still increasing.

There is another surprising news about bears recently: there is also a "bear" on the surface of Mars!

NASA recently released a picture sent back by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, showing a "bear face" suddenly appearing on the surface of Mars . Compared with the bears in our world, it is no different from the bears in our world except that it has no ears.

A research team from the University of Arizona, operating a camera on an aircraft, gave a possible explanation for the bear face:

The bear's "eyes" are two meteorite craters , and the outer contour of the round face may be a large meteorite crater, which has now been buried. The mouth and nose are like a collapsed mountain , and the gap may be due to lava or mud flows around the crater.

The team operated a camera called HIRISE, which helped restore the Martian bear's high-definition face. | MARS Reconnaissance Orbiter / NASA

Wherever you come from, Martian Bear, we salute you and your brothers on Earth!
