A 44-year-old famous actress revealed that she has been using reading glasses! A 39-year-old civil aviation captain has set the font on his phone to be super large! Can presbyopia be cured?

Recently, 44-year-old actress Joe Chen posted on her Sina Weibo account that she has been using reading glasses: "I just saw my presbyopia on the trending search list... Let me show you my first pair of reading glasses in my life."

In the general impression, only the elderly are associated with "presbyopia". However, according to Wang Bin, chief physician of the Department of Ophthalmology at Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital, after the age of 40, it is like a watershed, and many people gradually enter the ranks of "presbyopia". He recently treated a 39-year-old civil aviation captain who was such a case.

The captain's surname is Zheng. He is not only tall and handsome, but also has rich experience in performing flight missions with nearly 20 years of experience in the industry. However, recently, he had to take leave to come to the Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital for ophthalmology. As soon as Mr. Zheng entered the clinic, he began to complain to Chief Physician Wang Bin. He used to have very good eyesight and was never nearsighted, but recently he couldn't see the words on his mobile phone clearly, and he had to adjust the font to a larger size. The aircraft operating screen was not as clear as before, and such a problem made him very distressed at the time of his career rise.

Chief Physician Wang Bin conducted a detailed examination on Mr. Zheng, ruled out other eye diseases, and confirmed that the blurred vision was caused by presbyopia. He then prescribed reading glasses for him and provided relevant eye care knowledge. June 6 is National Eye Care Day. Let's see how ophthalmologists teach you how to prevent presbyopia.

What symptoms might indicate presbyopia?

Director Wang Bin said that it is quite common in outpatient clinics for young patients who used to have very good eyesight to develop presbyopia symptoms earlier than their peers. This is what many people usually say: the better the eyesight, the earlier presbyopia occurs. So, when should we be careful of "presbyopia" when symptoms appear? How can friends who have not yet developed "presbyopia" prevent it in normal times?

Wang Bin introduced that presbyopia is also known as presbyopia in medicine. It is more common in people over 40 years old. The lens hardens, the elasticity weakens, and the ciliary muscle contraction ability decreases, resulting in decreased accommodation and the near point moves far away, so it is difficult to see objects at close range. This phenomenon is called presbyopia. Presbyopia is also known as "visual acuity functional decline disease". The most direct manifestation is symptoms such as blurry reading at close range, fatigue, soreness, excessive tears, photophobia, dryness and accompanying headaches. The middle-aged and elderly people often say "forty-seven or eighty, my eyes are blurry", "the eyesight is much worse", "the eyesight is not good", which are all typical symptoms of presbyopia. A significant reduction in work efficiency is the biggest scourge of this disease. Like many chronic diseases, presbyopia in the early stage often does not receive due attention. It develops into serious diseases such as cataracts and acute visual acuity before treatment, which increases the difficulty of cure.

There is a certain rule between the degree of presbyopia and age, but patients with hyperopia will have presbyopia earlier than normal eyes, while patients with myopia will have this disease later than emmetropia, or will not need reading glasses for life. Clinically, it can be seen that distant vision is normal, but near vision is blurry. When the target is moved away, it becomes clearer, so people often move near objects away involuntarily. With age, even if books and newspapers are moved as far away as possible, it is difficult to get clear vision, and it may be accompanied by symptoms such as eye swelling, dryness, and headache. Wearing convex lenses can improve near vision.

If you have symptoms of presbyopia but refuse to wear glasses for treatment, it will only increase the burden on your eyes

Presbyopia is a normal physiological phenomenon of the human body and a sign of aging. As we age, the lens of the eye gradually hardens and thickens, and the adjustment ability of the eye muscles also decreases, resulting in a decrease in zoom ability. Therefore, when looking at close objects, the image cannot be fully focused when projected on the retina, and close objects will become blurry. Even if you pay attention to protecting your eyes, the degree of presbyopia will increase with age, generally at a rate of 50 degrees every 5 years.

According to the table of age and presbyopia, most people with good refractive conditions, that is, those without myopia or hyperopia, usually have presbyopia of 100 degrees at the age of 45, which increases to 200 degrees at the age of 55, and increases to 250 to 300 degrees around the age of 60, after which the presbyopia generally does not increase. The cause of presbyopia is excessive accumulation of "lipid peroxides" in the eye, which can easily cause presbyopia, cataracts, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, etc. Therefore, presbyopia is the first "yellow card" of human health. If it is not treated in time, there will be endless troubles.

Wang Bin said that presbyopia is often regarded as a sign of aging. Many people in their early 40s who have presbyopia refuse to wear reading glasses to correct their vision because they are unwilling to accept their age. This actually increases the burden on their eyes. If people with presbyopia do not wear glasses, even if they can barely see nearby targets clearly, they will experience various eye fatigue symptoms due to forced adjustment and excessive contraction of the ciliary muscles, such as headaches, tight eyebrows, eye pain, blurred vision and other visual fatigue symptoms.

White chrysanthemum + wolfberry soaked in water

Suitable for presbyopia with blurred vision

Chinese medicine has known about the law of human aging more than 2,000 years ago. Presbyopia is mainly due to the natural aging of the spleen, stomach, liver and kidney, and the essence of the internal organs cannot be transported to the pupil to nourish the eyes. Lycium barbarum is a medicine for nourishing the liver and kidney, and it can also improve eyesight; chrysanthemum can clear the liver and improve eyesight. The combination of the two, one clearing and one supplementing, taking into account both the symptoms and the root cause, has a significant protective effect on the eyes. Chief Physician Wang Bin recommends eating wolfberry tea to prevent and treat presbyopia: 5 grams of white chrysanthemum and wolfberry, brewed with boiling water, drinking as tea, 1 dose per day, and take it for 3 months. It has the effect of nourishing the liver and kidney, clearing the liver and improving eyesight, and is especially suitable for those with presbyopia who cannot see clearly. For the treatment of presbyopia, Wang Bin introduced that optometry is a reliable and effective method. Reading glasses can relieve patients' daily eye fatigue and adjust the rapid aging caused by excessive use of the eyes, but it should be noted that before wearing reading glasses, you must go to a regular hospital for an eye examination and choose the right lenses for yourself. If the degree of reading glasses increases rapidly and frequent changes of glasses are not satisfactory, eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma should be ruled out in time. In addition, CK surgery can also be chosen for treatment: using a probe as thin as a hair to release mild radio frequency, a small amount of collagen around the cornea will shrink, making the cornea steeper and more convex, so as to achieve the purpose of correcting hyperopia and presbyopia.

Wash eyes with cold water and blink frequently

Daily health care

1. Wash eyes with cold water: Wash eyes and face with cold water every morning and before going to bed. Soak eyes in clean cold water for 1-2 minutes, dry eyes with a towel, and then rub the area around eyes with your fingers about 30 times.

2. Look into the distance regularly: Look into the distance 1 to 2 times every morning, at noon, and before dusk. Choose the farthest target and stare at it for about 10 minutes without blinking.

3. Blink frequently: Blinking frequently can invigorate and strengthen the eye muscles and delay aging. The method is to open and close your eyes and blink about 15 times a day, and at the same time, rub your eyes gently with both hands to moisturize your eyeballs.

4. Rotate the eyeballs: Rotate the eyeballs clockwise and counterclockwise to improve blood circulation in the eye muscles and refresh the mind.

5. Hot compress to protect the eyes: Apply a hot towel on the eyes, changing it several times. This can keep the blood vessels in the eyes flowing smoothly and supply oxygen and nutrients to the eye muscles.

6. Prevent eyestrain: When reading books, newspapers or watching TV, keep a certain distance and do not watch them for too long to prevent excessive fatigue of the eye muscles and vision.

7. Eat more vegetables: There is another kind of vegetable called lutein, which can reduce the aging of the eyes, reduce the chance of eye diseases, and protect the retina from ultraviolet damage. It has many benefits to the human body. Under normal circumstances, lutein is most abundant in carrots, corn, and green leafy vegetables. The elderly must develop the habit of eating more vegetables in their daily lives, which can protect their eyes and supplement the lutein in the body. If lutein is used to intervene in the aging of the body, presbyopia will be effectively controlled.

Finally, Chief Physician Wang Bin reminds all presbyopia patients to have a good attitude. Maintaining a happy mood is also a good way to slow down presbyopia. I hope that every middle-aged friend will have presbyopia later!
