Yesterday, the co-branded coffee "Jiangxiang Latte" launched by Kweichow Moutai and Luckin Coffee was officially on sale. As soon as it was launched, it was constantly flooded with comments on Weibo and WeChat Moments.

According to the coffee brand, the sauce-flavored latte uses thick milk with a liquor flavor and contains 53-degree Kweichow Moutai liquor, with an alcohol content of less than 0.5%.

Some netizens are curious about what this coffee tastes like. Some netizens who have tried it say it tastes like "alcohol, like chocolate with a liquor filling" and "a bit like Baileys". Of course, some people think it tastes strange, even like rose fermented bean curd juice, or like drinking coffee the morning after a hangover.

Some netizens are even worried that after all, it is an alcoholic drink, can you still drive after drinking it? After all, there was a report about the "Moutai ice cream" incident, in which a person blew into the alcohol detector immediately after eating a box of Moutai ice cream, and the value showed that the alcohol content was 34mg/100ml, which has reached the standard for drunk driving .

1 Can you drive after drinking “Soy Sauce Latte”?

According to a clerk at Luckin Coffee, the ingredients used in its co-branded coffee are white wine-flavored thick milk (a prepared milk-containing beverage) and coffee liquid.

Thick milk is a new type of milk that can be used to mix coffee and milk tea. It can enhance the flavor of the drink, blend a mellower tongue-pressing feeling, and increase the value of the whole cup of product. Therefore, when users buy a sauce-flavored latte, they don't see the waiter dripping Moutai into the coffee cup, but only thick milk containing alcohol.

According to the list of ingredients of thick milk circulating on the Internet, liquor-flavored thick milk contains liquor, raw milk, condensed milk, carrageenan, cream, sugar, anhydrous butter, etc. Since then, this joint product has been questioned as only "technology and hard work". In the face of doubts, on the afternoon of September 4, Yan Jianguo, chairman of Ningxia Cezanne Dairy Co., Ltd., revealed that during the production process of thick milk, Moutai Distillery escorted 30 million yuan worth of Moutai, and sent people to watch each bottle being added to the raw materials, and then transported the bottles away.

On the evening of September 4, Luckin Coffee also released a short video titled "A Complete Record of the Production of Soy Sauce Latte Raw Materials" on its official account: from Moutai to the warehouse, to the opening of Moutai, professional bottling production, sampling and testing, and finally to the mass production of large quantities of goods, the video disclosed the production records of raw materials from a perspective directly on the front line of production.

Regarding the alcohol contained in the drink, Luckin Coffee’s official mini-program customer service responded: The alcohol content of the sauce-flavored latte is less than 0.5 degrees, but it is not recommended for minors, pregnant women, drivers, and people who are allergic to alcohol to drink it.

A reporter from China News Service called the Legal Affairs Department of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau. The staff of the department advised consumers not to drive after drinking alcoholic beverages. If the alcohol content in the blood exceeds 20mg/100ml, it will be considered as drunk driving.

In response to this, police officers from the Nanchang Honggutan Traffic Police Brigade conducted a test. After the test subjects drank the sauce-flavored latte, the alcohol tester showed that the alcohol content was 0.

However, "Changsha Police" has a different conclusion. According to its video account, when the traffic police conducted a field test, the person being tested took a sip of "Jiangxiang Latte" and detected 10mg/100ml.

Relevant staff also said, "The food you eat may contain alcohol. These drinks and foods containing ethanol will further increase the alcohol content in your blood. Moreover, everyone's physique is different, and the absorption of alcohol is also different. Therefore, it cannot be simply converted based on the alcohol content in the drink."

So the safest thing is not to drive!

2 Coffee + milk, double the anti-inflammatory effect?

In addition to liquor, coffee has many "partners", such as milk, coconut milk, orange juice... Do you know who its best partner is? According to a new study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry by the University of Copenhagen, coffee with milk (that is, latte) has a stronger anti-inflammatory effect.

Coffee originally contains two polyphenol components: caffeic acid (CA) and chlorogenic acid (CGA). Polyphenols are important natural antioxidants for the human body. They are found in many fruits and vegetables, tea, coffee, red wine and beer. Polyphenols can prevent and delay the oxidation of healthy chemicals and organs in the human body, thereby protecting them from damage or destruction.

The study found that compared with using polyphenols alone, immune cells treated with a combination of polyphenols and amino acids had a stronger anti-inflammatory effect. Simply put, the anti-inflammatory effect of coffee and milk is "doubled".

3 Tips for Drinking Coffee

1. Adults ≤ 3-5 cups/day

According to the recommendations of authoritative organizations such as the European Food Safety Authority and the US Food and Drug Administration, it is appropriate for healthy adults to consume no more than 210-400 mg of caffeine (equivalent to 3-5 cups of coffee) per day.

Academic organizations in the field of pregnancy and childbirth in Europe and the United States believe that pregnant women are not encouraged to drink coffee. If they really want to drink it, the daily caffeine intake should not exceed 150-300 mg (about 1-2 cups of coffee). Teenagers aged 12-18 can drink a small amount of coffee, but the daily caffeine intake should not exceed 100 mg (about 1 cup of coffee).

2. Best time: 10:00

Generally speaking, a cup of coffee around 10 a.m. can achieve a good refreshing effect. Caffeine takes about 8 hours to metabolize, so don't drink it too late to avoid insomnia at night, especially for people who are sensitive to caffeine.

In addition, it is not recommended to drink coffee on an empty stomach. It is best to drink it after breakfast. If time is tight, it is best to eat some carbohydrate-rich food before drinking coffee.

3. What harm do liquor and coffee do to the body?

Judging from sales and online feedback, Baijiu coffee is very popular. However, experts remind people with poor cardiopulmonary and gastrointestinal functions to drink less.

Liang Tingting, chief nutritionist at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, said that for people whose cardiopulmonary function is not very good, drinking white wine and coffee is more likely to cause palpitations, heart palpitations, or even arrhythmia.

For people with weak gastrointestinal tract, alcohol and caffeine will irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, which may cause gastritis, gastric ulcer, indigestion, abdominal pain, bloating, etc.

In addition, these two have a stimulating effect on the nervous system, which can easily cause insomnia, nightmares, and hyperactivity, affecting the nervous system. Over time, it can also easily lead to endocrine disorders.

Regarding the sauce-flavored latte, the editor also tried it today and found it not bad. The taste is basically the same as Luckin Ice Latte, with the aftertaste of some of the peculiar spiciness and fragrance of white wine. For people who do not drink, it is generally within an acceptable range.

As the saying goes, "No matter how sweet the dates are, they are not as good as watermelons sprinkled with salt." Cross-border collaboration is like a watermelon sprinkled with salt. The merchants want to create the fun of the product through reversal, making the seemingly bland products more interesting. But don't drink and drive, don't drive after drinking, so let's choose to taste it when we have nothing to do.
