For every hour of sitting, the average life span is shortened by 22 minutes? The harm of long-term sitting is more than just back pain!

"For every hour of sitting, the average life expectancy is shortened by 22 minutes; the mortality rate of people who sit for more than 11 hours a day is 1.4 times that of those who sit for less than 4 hours." - Waseda University Research Team

Do you often sit for hours at a time? Well, here's some sobering news. A long-term, global health study has found that prolonged sitting is strongly associated with mortality, and that getting up and moving around when you're sitting for too long could be the key to saving lives.

The study, conducted by Waseda University, followed 220,000 people over the age of 45 for three years. The results were shocking: for every hour spent sitting, the average life span was shortened by 22 minutes. Even more alarming was that the mortality rate of people who sat for more than 11 hours a day was 1.4 times that of those who sat for less than four hours.

Why is sitting so dangerous?

Researcher Professor Okada Koichiro explained that sitting for a long time makes the leg muscles unable to move, slows down metabolism and blood flow, and increases blood sugar levels and neutral fat. This situation not only affects blood pressure, but also increases the risk of various diseases.

So, how to deal with this problem?

The solution is to break up your sitting. Researchers suggest that you move every 30 minutes, even if it's just stamping your feet, squatting, or lifting your heels. This small move can help improve blood circulation, increase metabolism, reduce physical discomfort, and reduce the risk of disease.

So, whether you are working in an office or relaxing at home, don't forget to stand up after sitting for a while, because your life is worth every minute of care.
