The hometown described by a Ming Dynasty poet with 66 crystals is now recreated with its water charm!

Han Yi, a Ming Dynasty poet, once described the scenery of Nanxun in Huzhou like this: "The bottom of the hundred-mile stream is clear, and the sweet potato flowers and apple leaves are newly cleared after the rain. Merchants in Nanxun are in the market by boat, and people in Xisai are farming on the water."

Nanxun is located in the northeast of the Hangjiahu Plain and the south bank of Taihu Lake, with rivers crisscrossing the territory. In his autobiographical novel "Jiangnan Town" in his later years, the famous writer Xu Chi used 66 "crystals" in one breath to describe his hometown Nanxun.

In the Lingtang of Xindi Village, Hefu Town, Nanxun District, villagers pick water chestnuts in a rowing bucket

However, as a nationally renowned "wood flooring capital", Nanxun used to have small rural workshops producing all kinds of wood flooring everywhere. More than 3,000 wood companies were the economic pillars of Nanxun. Their characteristics of "low, small, scattered, messy and dirty" caused serious pollution of the river and even affected the water environment of Taihu Lake, making Nanxun's scenery no longer what it used to be.

In order to reshape the crystal clear Nanxun, the relevant departments have launched the "Hundreds of Rivers and Thousands of Rivers" comprehensive management project. The project consists of the comprehensive management project of beautiful rural rivers and the comprehensive management project of lakes and trunk rivers. The construction area is about 702 square kilometers, including 83 village river networks and 5 village rivers, 20 major lakes and 5 trunk rivers.

Among them, the Eight Palaces in the Nanxun waters involve Linghu Town, Qianjin Town, and Shicong Town. The waters cover a vast area and are an important part of the "Hundreds of Rivers and Thousands of Rivers" comprehensive management project. In order to reproduce the picturesque plain water town scenery, the relevant departments have changed the previous single river section management model. Through flood control and drainage, clean water and clean rivers and other measures, the backbone rivers, large lakes and rivers in the region have been comprehensively managed in series, realizing the comprehensive coordination of rivers, lakes and rivers. For the management of river and lake water networks, dredging, water system connectivity, ecological revetment and management measures are adopted, and a number of ecological and environmental protection projects such as rural ecological river management, river and lake pond dredging, and long-term river cleaning are vigorously promoted. After the transformation, the water quality of the Nanxun waters has been significantly improved, and the water quality compliance rate of key rivers, lakes and reservoirs has stabilized at more than 90%, achieving the effect of no shrinkage of water areas, gradual improvement of functions, and significant improvement of ecology, allowing this Jiangnan water town to once again glow with its former vitality and glory.

River management has beautified the environment and enriched the villagers. Linghu Lake, the "Freshwater Fish Capital of China", is located in the southwest of Nanxun. As the overall environment of the Nanxun water system has improved, it has also driven the transformation of ecological resources into ecological capital. Linghu Lake has seen the emergence of many fishing centers, attracting many fishing enthusiasts from the Yangtze River Delta region such as Shanghai and Hangzhou to experience it, and also boosting the sales of local fish products.

The development of rural cultural tourism industry has not only promoted the local economic development, but also brought jobs to the local area. Relying on the scenery of Jiangnan water town and rich cultural landscape resources, Yaoli Village has become a "net celebrity village" today, attracting a large number of tourists to come here to check in and take photos, feel the Jiangnan water town, and experience the traditional ancient kiln culture, truly turning "green" into "gold".

"Hundreds of Rivers and Thousands of Lakes" uses water as a medium, connecting scenic trails, pavilions and waterside pavilions, with ecological islands dotted between the lakes; with villages as a medium, white walls and black tiles, small bridges and flowing water, the rural scenery embraces the embrace of nature, making "Water Charm Jiangnan" rejuvenated with vitality and brilliant colors.
