How have humans communicated from ancient times to the present? Experience the development of communication networks

"Guess how long it takes for a pair of custom shoes to leave the factory? Two hours, can you believe it?" What has the communication network brought us today? No matter how far apart we are, we can meet at any time; no matter how remote the location is, we can accurately locate; no matter where the products we are interested in are, we can easily shop without leaving home. This issue of the "Meet for Science Popularization" column went to the Communication Branch of the Fujian Science and Technology Museum to experience the changes that the development of the communication network has brought to our lives.

1. History of the Development of Communication Tools

The earliest communication tool in my country can be traced back to the late Western Zhou Dynasty, when people used smoke signals for long-distance communication. In addition, pigeons and post stations were also tools for long-distance communication in ancient my country. In modern times, with the discovery of electricity and magnetism, human communication technology has entered a stage of rapid development. Now, only a mobile phone or a computer is needed to achieve long-distance communication.

2. Why develop 5G?

There has always been a flaw in 4G: network congestion! The solution brought by 5G is to increase bandwidth and use technologies such as millimeter waves, massive multiple-input multiple-output, 3D beamforming, and small base stations to achieve faster speeds, lower latency, and greater bandwidth than 4G, and can connect hundreds of billions of devices at the same time.

3. In which fields will 6G be applied in the future?

In the future, the 6G concept will continue to grow, possibly between 2030 and 2035. 6G will be applied to space communications, intelligent interaction, tactile Internet, emotional and tactile communication, multi-sensory mixed reality, machine-to-machine collaboration, fully automatic transportation and other fields, and is committed to creating the 6G era of intelligent connection of all things, and ultimately realizing "information at your fingertips, everything at your fingertips".
