The wind of missing you blew to Ailao Mountain? How did the real-life "Yunnan Worm Valley" become a restricted area?

Recently, Yunnan's Ailao Mountain attracted attention due to an adventure video posted by a blogger. Many "curious" tourists flocked to the mountain, even blocking the mountain road for a time.

In response to this, the local authorities urgently issued a safety alert: reminding tourists not to rashly explore areas of Ailao Mountain that have not yet been opened to the public, so as to avoid danger .

Why did Ailao Mountain become a restricted area?

Ailao Mountain is located in the central part of Yunnan Province, spanning Chuxiong Prefecture, Yuxi City, Pu'er City and other prefectures and cities in Yunnan Province.

This is the place where the world's largest, least disturbed, and most complete subtropical mid-mountain wet evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystem is preserved. There are tall trees towering into the sky, low shrubs covering the ground, mosses and ferns covering branches and roots, and vines and vines growing everywhere. Local people call it the "Forest of Death", and netizens call it the real-life "Yunnan Worm Valley".

At present, many areas outside the Ailao Mountains have been opened as scenic spots, such as the Ancient Tea-Horse Road, Nanen Waterfall, Shimen Gorge and Jinshan Primeval Forest Park in Xinping County, Yuxi City. These scenic spots are distributed along National Highway 323, making it convenient and safe for tourists to enter and exit.

The other unopened areas deep in the Ailao Mountains are mostly virgin forests. Local authorities remind people not to rashly go to the unopened areas of the Ailao Mountains :

The hinterland of Ailao Mountain is high and densely forested, with steep slopes and many cliffs, and no roads for normal traffic. In addition, there are many wild animals in the primeval forest, and bears, leopards, poisonous snakes, etc. are often seen.

There are often severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, heavy snow, and hail here. In rainy and foggy weather, the dense fog in the forest will release a large amount of carbon dioxide at night. People who walk in the mountains and forests for a long time may lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen and then suffer from hypothermia.

Measurements by scientific researchers have confirmed that there is an abnormal intensity of the geomagnetic field in the Ailao Mountains, which can easily cause compass failure and increase the risk of getting lost.

The maximum fine for trespassing in the Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve is 5,000 yuan

On the 6th, the Chuxiong Management Bureau of Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve issued the "Notice to Visitors to the Chuxiong Prefecture of Yunnan Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve" and the "Notice on Prohibition of Entering the Nature Reserve to Carry out Various Unauthorized Human Activities", which clearly stated:

It is strictly forbidden for any unit or individual to enter the Chuxiong Prefecture area of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve without authorization. No visiting or tourism activities have been carried out in the Chuxiong Prefecture . It is strictly forbidden to enter without authorization to carry out various hiking, trekking, crossing, camping and other activities.

Anyone who enters a nature reserve without permission or disobeys the management of the management agency within a nature reserve shall be ordered by the nature reserve management agency to correct the behavior and may be fined between RMB 100 and RMB 5,000 depending on the circumstances.

In November 2021, four geological survey personnel entered the hinterland of Ailao Mountain to perform tasks and later died in the line of duty. After forensic examination and joint on-site investigation, the main reason for the death of the four people was excessive physical exertion, sudden strong winds in the area of the incident, and sudden drop in temperature, which caused human hypothermia. Therefore, when climbing, you must always pay attention to the surrounding environment and avoid setting foot on undeveloped dangerous roads.
