A tiger entered the village and bit a villager! What should you do if you encounter a ferocious beast?

On the morning of November 18, a tiger was suspected to have appeared in Changtai Village, Jixing Township, Boli County, Heilongjiang Province, and some villagers were bitten and injured. The tiger also rammed the villagers' door with its head. That morning, many local departments had arrived at the scene to investigate and deal with the situation. The villagers are currently hiding in their homes with their doors closed. Mr. Zhao, the son of the old man bitten by the tiger, said that his father was pounced on the ground by the tiger while taking a walk. The tiger was the size of a calf. When his father used his hand to block it, his left hand was bitten and bloody. "The bitten arm probably can't be saved."

The surveillance video shows that at about 6:08 a.m. on November 18, a low roar of an animal was heard in a farmyard, and a dog was barking, and then a dark shadow of a large animal flashed outside the door. A man in the yard told the people around him: "A big tiger has come." About 2 minutes later, the man came to the metal fence gate of the yard to observe. The large animal rushed over from a distance and banged the fence gate. The man was frightened and hurriedly ran into the inner room.

The video poster said that the incident happened in Changtai Village, Jixing Township, Boli County, Heilongjiang Province. Another local resident told reporters that he heard that the tiger had bitten someone in the village and the injured person was sent to the hospital for treatment.

The reporter called several villagers in Changtai Village, and they all said they had heard about the incident and were currently hiding in their homes. One villager told the reporter: "There was a notice in the group chat asking us not to go out. Tigers are not common here, and this is the first time I've heard of a tiger entering the village."

A staff member of the Changtai Village Committee stated that a tiger had indeed entered the village and bit a 65-year-old villager named Zhao, who had been sent to the hospital. The fire department and police were searching for the tiger in the village.

On the morning of November 18, staff from the Boli County Public Security Bureau said that the police from the police station had gone to the village to catch tigers, and that some villagers had indeed been bitten, and that they were advised not to go out. The staff also said that this was the first time that traces of Siberian tigers had been found since Boli County had county records.

According to statistics, there are more than 1,400 bird species and more than 500 mammal species distributed in my country, and common beasts include tigers, bears, wolves, etc. Sun Quanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection Association, said that for these aggressive and large beasts and most wild animals, humans are not their food, so generally speaking, they will not actively attack humans. Only when animals think that the safety of themselves or their cubs is threatened, or when they have lost the ability to capture prey in the wild and food is extremely scarce, will they attack humans.

However, as China's ecological protection work continues, such "tiger sightings" are increasing. How should we respond when we unexpectedly encounter tigers and other ferocious beasts?

In this regard, experts remind: If you encounter a wild animal at close range while walking, do not turn around and run away immediately, as this may trigger the wild animal's conditioned reflex behavior. The correct approach is to observe the wild animal's reaction and slowly back away until you are out of contact. If you encounter a wild animal at close range while driving, keep your distance and leave as soon as possible. Do not gather to watch or make loud noises to scare the wild animal. At the same time, notify the relevant department immediately and let professionals handle it.
