Many people want to play the game of "Pouring water to make ice"! But... Important reminder

"Pouring water to make ice" is a popular experience in ice and snow tourism. Recently, a tourist was scalded during the experience, which attracted the attention of netizens. What is the principle of "Pouring water to make ice"? How to operate it safely?

Experience being burned by "water turning into ice"

Beware the risks behind the coolness

Recently, Ms. Jiang, a tourist from Jiangxi, visited Heilongjiang and wanted to experience the "splashing water to make ice" trick she saw online. As a result, she was accidentally scalded by hot water during the operation. Ms. Jiang said that the hot water caused small blisters on her head. After emergency treatment such as cold compresses and medication, her injuries have improved a lot.

Being scalded by the "water turning into ice" experience is not an isolated case. Every winter, the hospital's scald department will be visited by tourists scalded by boiling water.

Zhao Zhenyu, chief physician of the burns department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University: The degree of burns is generally first degree and shallow second degree, and the common parts are the head, face, hands, and feet. Because the water temperature must be above 90℃ to achieve the effect of splashing water into ice, it is very easy to get burned if the operation is not done properly.

Dr. Zhao said that if you are scalded by hot water, you should take correct first aid measures immediately and rinse the scalded area with running cold water for 20 to 30 minutes to cool the skin. If the scalded area is relatively small, rinse with cold water and disinfect it, but do not peel off the blister skin , which can protect the subcutaneous tissue.

How is “water turns into ice” formed?

Ren Yanyu, a professor at the School of Physics of Harbin Institute of Technology, introduced that the ice in "pouring water to turn into ice" is not the water freezing, but the water vapor formed by water, which condenses into water droplets or small ice crystals in extremely cold air. This is similar to the heavy fog phenomenon formed in the northern winter weather.

Professor Ren introduced that this process requires the following conditions:

The temperature needs to be very low. Generally, it needs to be at least -30℃, and preferably -40℃, because the lower the temperature, the shorter the process of condensation into ice.

You need boiling water. Very hot water is more likely to evaporate into gas, and then turn into small water droplets when it gets cold, which we can see. "Water turns into ice" usually occurs in extremely cold environments, and can directly turn from gas to solid. This is the process of "condensation".

There are tips for safe operation of "pouring water into ice"

Professor Ren suggested that when experiencing it for the first time, do not pour directly with a wide-mouthed pot. You can add a layer of filter to help scatter the water more fully and form smaller droplets. Also, do not pour straight upwards to avoid danger.
How to operate "Pouring Water to Make Ice" more safely? The staff of the scenic spot demonstrated it↓

According to the staff, in order to achieve better shooting effects, tourists are advised to operate in the early morning when the temperature is low and the light is good. They must first master the skills of splashing water and operate under the premise of ensuring safety.

Take a pot of boiling water and add it to a special water ladle that you can pick up with one hand to find the amount of water that suits you.

When pouring water, be sure to put it on the side of your body, not directly facing your body, so as to avoid the boiling water falling and scalding yourself.

Quickly and quickly move your arms into a circle, which will create a better effect.
