Dr. Peng launches Gigabit broadband home access, ushering in the era of ultra-realistic OTT

With the continuous growth of information consumption and network infrastructure demand worldwide, network broadband construction has become an infrastructure construction to promote upper-layer application services and boost information consumption. Following Google's launch of the gigabit broadband service Google Fiber, on September 25, Dr. Peng announced the launch of the nationwide gigabit broadband product home promotion, with a price of 599 yuan/month. Prior to this, Hong Kong Broadband Company had already deployed gigabit broadband homes in Hong Kong Island, my country.

Gigabit bandwidth conforms to the laws of the times

Although the current network bandwidth has basically met the needs of most home users, the continuous and rapid development of bandwidth is still the future trend.

There is an intuitive analogy for the high speed of gigabit bandwidth. The update package of Apple iOS 8 is about 1.3G, which usually takes an hour to download, while a gigabit broadband with a transmission rate of 120M per second only takes 10 seconds.

In fact, the concept of gigabit broadband has emerged in China recently. "Gigabit broadband" based on "cloud computing technology" has become an indispensable development force in China's network construction, but gigabit broadband, which has not yet entered the practical stage, is ultimately just a concept.

The development of bandwidth actually follows a certain pattern, that is, higher bandwidth can improve the running quality and speed of applications that are not running well now, and at the same time give rise to more new applications; and these new applications will bring higher pressure on the bandwidth, prompting its development, and the two will promote each other in a cycle to achieve a continuous development space.

David Sosa, an analyst at the US Analysis Group, also said, "The impact of gigabit broadband networks on economic development is actually very difficult to predict, but it is reasonable to think that this gigabit network will have a transformative effect; gigabit fiber networks are like the first wave of connections, it will change the way companies do business and people communicate with each other."

After acquiring Great Wall Broadband, the private enterprise Dr. Peng gradually developed into one of the earliest manufacturers of large-bandwidth products in my country. Data shows that by the end of 2013, there were 1.3365 million users with bandwidths above 50M, accounting for 21.7% of the company's total online users. After 100M broadband formed a certain market scale, Dr. Peng began to seek better bandwidth services.

Before launching the Gigabit bandwidth, Dr. Peng went to Silicon Valley in the United States to investigate Google's Gigabit Broadband.

Like Google's Gigabit Broadband, the launch of Dr. Peng's Gigabit Broadband is not simply intended to provide users with so-called high-speed network services, but rather to prevent slow, low-cost, and poor-service broadband facilities from hindering video, social, gaming and other application services.

Google's approach of using gigabit bandwidth to improve user experience is undoubtedly "self-service", and Dr. Peng is no exception.

Gigabit broadband boosts the OTT industry

Dr. Peng is the only private enterprise with a license to build a broadband backbone network, except for the three major telecom operators. As the demand for broadband market is still unsaturated and the competition for the user market is fierce, private enterprises have strong competitive potential in the broadband growth market.

At present, Dr. Peng's broadband users have covered 58 cities, with a total of 60 million households, of which 8 million are paying broadband users, and more than 2 million are 50M and 100M broadband users. There is still a certain gap between the number of broadband users and the number of users of the three major operators, because Dr. Peng has not found a suitable entry point in terms of user demand and product provision until the emergence of video applications.

Damai Box is a network player created by Dr. Peng itself, which was launched together with its main product, 100M broadband. Damai Box can stand out from many OTT TV box markets, relying on its "killer weapon" - 4K ultra-clear movie sources that require 100M bandwidth. As the slogan says: "Ultra-clear box with 100M bandwidth can perform best."

With the development of Internet video and OTT industries, high-definition movies, 4K TV, 3D images, Dolby sound effects and other applications are constantly being integrated into video applications. The strengthening of application and service demand will inevitably lead to the growth of high-speed broadband. Therefore, faster broadband growth is necessary for both the broadband industry and the video industry.

On the other hand, after the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has been stepping up its rectification and control over the OTT industry, the era of pleasing users with the quantity of content resources may be over, and the era of the OTT industry with resource quality and application services as "selling points" may come. Such a special video industry market requires matching high-speed bandwidth as a support, so the OTT industry has begun to become an integral and important part of the high-speed broadband industry.

In terms of effect, because it breaks through the limitation of 36M high bit rate, Pengbo's gigabit broadband combined with Damai Box can achieve extremely smooth 4K picture playback. When playing 4K "ultra-real" content, users can drag the progress at will without any buffering.

At the same time, TV cloud games have also begun to become the mainstream trend of large-screen games in the future.

The realization of cloud gaming requires two prerequisites: high-speed Internet and Internet TV. With cloud technology, players are no longer restricted by terminal hardware performance, game versions, memory space, etc., and both large-scale games and casual games can run smoothly on the terminal.

It is reported that under the layout of Dr. Peng's "cloud, pipe and terminal" integrated development strategy, Dr. Peng is realizing the development from a single broadband operator to a "gigabit cloud, pipe and terminal" intelligent ecosystem. Such a development strategy is not only conducive to the popularization of high-speed broadband networks, but also will derive a large number of large broadband products and form a complete enterprise ecosystem.

In addition to the Gigabit Broadband released yesterday, Dr. Peng also timely launched the "Gigabit Application Fund", which not only avoids the fierce market competition of the Internet, but also reduces the growth cycle and promotion costs of application products, and promotes the rapid popularization of Gigabit application services and Gigabit broadband.

Dr. Peng's Executive Vice President Wu Shaoyan revealed that Gigabit broadband will be deployed in first-tier cities nationwide, targeting mid- to high-end users. It is expected that by the end of 2017, Gigabit broadband will be promoted to second-tier cities nationwide to develop business, and gradually cover second- and third-tier cities; nationwide network coverage will reach 100 million households, and the number of 100M broadband users will exceed 10 million. By then, the "Broadband China" strategy will also be implemented and broken through in leaps and bounds.
