Thinner and thinner! Why do domestic mobile phones keep breaking thickness records?

Thinness and lightness have always been a major pursuit of smartphone manufacturers for their products. As a domestic brand that loves ultra-thin mobile phones, Gionee's ELIFE series has continuously pushed the thickness of smartphones from 5.55mm to 5.15mm. At the end of October, OPPO will release the ultra-thin smartphone R5, which will make the body thickness break through the 5mm mark in one fell swoop, reaching a terrifying 4.85mm.

But do you really think that the competition among domestic mobile phones to achieve thinner bodies has come to an end?

There have been rumors before that the domestic brand vivo is also going to release an ultra-thin mobile phone. Now, the device has passed the network access license of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The model is vivo X5Max L. The parameters show that its thickness is 4.75mm, which means that it will replace OPPO R5 with an advantage of 0.1mm and become the thinnest smartphone in the world.

Although the parameters look particularly dazzling, in fact, ultra-thin smartphones still face many technical challenges. Even if they become mass-produced products, they may not be easy for consumers to use.

Take the OPPO R5 as an example. Although it adopts a relatively "conservative" 4..85mm thickness in design, the side of the body can no longer accommodate a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a slightly regrettable part of this amazing product.

The ultra-thin body also makes the space available for internal components of the phone more limited. Whether it is a domestic ultra-thin phone or the iPhone 6, a protruding camera is inevitable. The battery capacity and heat dissipation issues faced by ordinary smartphones will also become more severe.

Therefore, although the "ultra-thin body war" is very likely to constitute another wave of offensive by domestic mobile phones in the market after the "processor war", "screen resolution war" and "camera war", Motorola, which pioneered the "RAZR" era, is no longer pursuing ultra-thinness. Whether you really need a blade-like mobile phone, you need to think twice before acting.
