The era of smart TV aggregation may come with more than 100 million users

As an important output screen for home entertainment, the development trend of TV in the past few years has lagged far behind other major output screens. However, stimulated by the Internet era, the era of TV aggregation with smart TV as the main body may officially arrive.

At present, the impact of the Internet video industry, led by video websites, on the smart TV industry has become obvious. As one of the most important functional applications of smart TVs, video is still the key point for the smart TV industry to seek breakthroughs.

After the Internet era came into being, the presentation of online videos also began to move from a single screen to multiple screens. Whether it is PC, mobile, or giant movie screens, they are all beginning to move closer to TV. Especially in the past 2014, the giant screen movie industry and smart TVs began to move towards mutual benefit and common development.

Film adaptations of entertainment programs

Last Spring Festival, the movie of the same name, "Where Are We Going, Dad?", adapted from Hunan TV's parent-child reality show "Where Are We Going, Dad?", swept the Lunar New Year box office that year with 700 million yuan, instantly becoming a phenomenal film masterpiece.

In this regard, four reality show movies are about to be released during the Spring Festival this year, namely Dad's Holiday, created by the original team of last year's Dad, Where Are We Going?, Dad 2, adapted from this year's Dad, Where Are We Going?, Sorry, Baby, adapted from Hunan Satellite TV's role-swap show Metamorphosis, and Run, Brothers, adapted from Zhejiang Satellite TV's popular reality show Running Man.

In fact, adapting popular TV shows into big-screen movies is not a "new thing" in the past two years. As early as the 2009 "Happy Boy" era, there was the failed adaptation of the movie "Happy Boys", and later there were "Let's Date", "The Voice of China: Turning for You", "I Am Who I Am" and other movies adapted from popular TV variety shows. But before the success of the big movie "Where Are We Going, Dad", these pioneering works all ended in failure due to the immaturity of various conditions.

Firstly, the adapted TV programs themselves do not have any storyline or creative elements, and the adapted movies cannot arouse the audience's desire to watch; secondly, the development of the film industry is not as rapid as it is now, and neither the cinema schedule nor the ticket price market have been as prosperous as in the past two years.

More importantly, the seamless connection between small-screen TV programs and big movies has not yet developed to a mature stage. In the past two years, whether it is the trend of "online-TV linkage" between video websites and traditional TV stations, or the continuous trend of TV intelligence, they are stimulating the gradual formation of "TV-film linkage" between TV screens and movie screens. In the future, the trend of film works constantly moving closer to TV content may become one of the important forms of TV content.

Movies are moving closer to TV screens

With the rapid development of my country's film industry, the "post-cinema" market has shown a very favorable trend. The maturity of the video website industry has made the audience quite accepting of the mode of watching movies online. But in fact, in addition to the "PC terminal", the first base of the Internet, "TV theaters" are also another important channel for film distribution.

At present, 80% of the revenue of my country's film market comes from the box office revenue of cinemas, and the "post-cinema" revenue is only 20%. According to the global average data, cinema revenue only accounts for 40% of the film industry, and the United States only accounts for 10-20%. It can be said that the less the film industry relies on cinemas, the more diversified its sources of income will be.

At the beginning of 2014, Gehua Cable pioneered the "TV Cinema Chain" in the national cable television industry, providing domestic and foreign high-definition cinema blockbusters to more than 4 million high-definition interactive users in Beijing with the method of "good movies + low prices + postpayment + watching at home".

At the end of last year, Gehua Cable TV joined forces with more than 30 provincial and municipal cable network companies to launch and establish the China TV Cinema Alliance, covering 200 million cable network users and providing "TV Cinema" services to more than 20 million high-definition interactive home users.

It can be said that through in-depth cooperation with film producers, distributors, and copyright holders, "TV Cinemas" has shortened the "window period" for films to go from traditional theaters to television platforms, and opened up the second largest film distribution market outside of traditional theaters. It has not only effectively extended the life cycle of films, but also established a win-win ecological model with the television industry.

Although the entire smart TV industry has not achieved explosive growth due to product configuration issues, network bandwidth and other conditions, and the content advantages of the smart TV industry have not been fully utilized, in the future, as more and more video-based content continues to move towards it, the rising demand for user experience will surely stimulate the full arrival of the entire smart TV industry.
