According to foreign media reports, market research firm Juniper Research recently made a visionary prediction on the prospects for 5G adoption in its latest report: by 2025, global 5G service revenue is expected to exceed US$65 billion, a surge from US$100 million in 2020, the first year of its official commercial operation, and will account for approximately 7% of operators' total service revenue in 2025. Juniper noted that while the first commercial deployments are expected in 2020, adoption of 5G services will be widespread by 2025. The definition of 5G and the rise of the Internet of Things Juniper Research's groundbreaking study titled "5G Market Strategies: 4G LTE Evolution, Spectrum Analysis & Opportunities 2015-2025" found that the industry is increasingly reaching a consensus on the development of 5G technology and performance standards. The key elements of the "5G Vision" include network speeds of at least 10Gbps, latency below 1 millisecond, improved spectrum efficiency, reduced energy consumption, extended battery life, higher component density, and improved reliability and flexibility. 5G provides a new consumer experience Juniper Research found that 5G will not only enable faster connections, but will also facilitate a wide range of new consumer and enterprise experiences, including data-intensive and energy-efficient applications, high-definition 4K-8K video, self-driving cars, advanced virtual reality, and the sensory/touch Internet - for continuous monitoring and control. It should also be noted that operators will need to consider multiple service deployment scenarios in order to obtain sufficient ROI (return on investment) from their network and licence investments. "These fragmented sectors or services require operators to develop transparent and competitive pricing based on data usage, device type and network speed, which means profit margins will vary depending on the sector involved," said Nitin Bhas, author of the report. Other key findings: Juniper estimates that the industry will invest at least $25 billion in research, testing and development of 5G technology over the next five years. In 2020, there will be more than 3 billion active 4G LTE connections worldwide. |
