Deloitte: 2020 Global Automotive Consumer Survey Report

Deloitte: 2020 Global Automotive Consumer Survey Report

Deloitte released the "2020 Global Automotive Consumer Survey". From September to October 2019, Deloitte surveyed more than 35,000 consumers in 20 countries to explore various key issues affecting the automotive industry, including the development of advanced technologies.

Interest in electric vehicles continues to grow around the world

There are still significant barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles in the United States, but the number of people considering an electric vehicle for their next car purchase is growing rapidly.

Consumers are split on the benefits of increased vehicle connectivity, with consumers in India and China more than twice as likely to embrace the idea as consumers in Germany.

Interest in autonomous driving stagnates in most markets

Consumers in most global markets remain divided on the safety of autonomous vehicles.

Reports of accidents involving self-driving vehicles have had a significant and lasting impact on consumer perceptions. More than half of consumers in India and the United States are concerned about the idea of self-driving vehicles being tested in the area where they live.

The vast majority of consumers in India, China and South Korea believe they would be more comfortable riding in a self-driving vehicle if it was certified by the government.

Consumer trust in manufacturers to bring autonomous vehicle technology to market continued to decline in the United States and Japan, while remaining largely unchanged in other markets.

Consumers still resist multi-modal

Consumers in Japan, Germany and the United States are the most resistant to change, with less than one in five respondents using multiple modes in a single trip.

Concerns about privacy and data security remain

Who consumers most trust to manage the data their vehicles collect and share remains up in the air, as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are not necessarily the logical choice. People are also concerned about who will best manage the data generated and shared by their vehicles.
