IDC: Global AI Servers Exceed 40 Billion for the First Time in the First Half of 2021

The report shows that in the first half of 2021, the global artificial intelligence server market size reached US$6.66 billion, equivalent to RMB 43.1 billion. This is the first time that the global semi-annual artificial intelligence server market has exceeded RMB 40 billion, with a year-on-year growth rate of 28.9% compared with the first half of 2020.

In the global AI server market in the first half of 2021, Inspur Information, Dell, and HPE ranked the top three with market shares of 20.2%, 13.8%, and 9.8%, respectively. The total market share of the three manufacturers accounted for 43.8%.

The growth rate is 28.9%, and AI servers are still the main growth force of the AI market

According to IDC data, the year-on-year growth rate of the global AI server market in the first half of 2021 exceeded the growth rate of the global AI market by 22.4% (including hardware, software and services), becoming the driving force for the growth of the overall AI market. In the next five years, the AI server market will continue to grow rapidly, and it is expected that the global AI server market will reach US$27.7 billion in 2025, with a five-year compound growth rate of 20.3%.

In the past few years, the requirements for computing power in machine learning and artificial intelligence applications have become increasingly stringent, which has also led to the rapid growth of the server market equipped with GPUs, FPGAs and other AI-oriented scenarios, becoming an important growth point for the overall server market. IDC predicts that by 2024, artificial intelligence will become a core component of enterprise workloads, 75% of enterprises and 20% of their workloads will be based on or enabled by artificial intelligence, and 15% of IT infrastructure will be accelerated by the application of artificial intelligence. With the increasingly complex algorithm framework and the explosive trend of large-scale pre-trained models, computing power will become an important factor in determining the upper limit of artificial intelligence development.

China's AI computing power accounts for 40% of the world's total

In China, the development of the digital economy and the implementation of AI applications have led to the continuous growth of China's AI computing market. According to IDC data, China's AI computing power accounts for about 40% of the global market and is the backbone of the development of the global artificial intelligence industry. AI computing power is an important indicator of a country's computing power level. China is stepping up efforts to build an intelligent computing power ecosystem to empower and drive the digital transformation and intelligent upgrade of the economy and society.
