NRDC & Peking University: Research on the potential for coal-fired power transformation and optimization in typical provinces in China

Based on the characteristics of geographical location, resource endowment, and electricity supply and demand, this report selected six representative provinces, namely Jilin, Shanxi, Gansu, Shandong, Hubei and Jiangsu. After analyzing the current status of electricity development and future supply and demand situation in each province, the report used the "coal-fired power transformation decision tree" to select and determine the optimal path for existing coal-fired power units, and calculated the space for optimization measures such as upgrading and transformation, equal or reduced substitution, and direct withdrawal, and put forward policy recommendations for the low-carbon transformation of electricity in each province.
