China Passenger Car Association & CAM: Passenger car market product competitiveness index is 90.5 in April 2022

The Automobile Market Research Branch of the China Automobile Dealers Association (Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee, referred to as the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee) and Shanghai Fulan Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (CAM Automotive Consulting) jointly released the "Product Competitiveness Index", aiming to build a mature product evaluation standard, study the factors affecting product competitiveness, and gain insight into market trends.
The "Product Competitiveness Index" is an index that quantifies product competitiveness by building a product competitiveness index system based on four dimensions: user reputation (online), market popularity (online), product evaluation, and price strength. The larger the index value, the stronger the comprehensive competitiveness of the product.
Index Overview April 2022

Taking January 2019 as the base period, the overall market product competitiveness index in April 2022 was 90.5, up 0.3 points month-on-month; from the perspective of the three major market segments, the sedan market fell 0.6 points month-on-month, while the SUV and MPV markets rose 1.8 and 1.4 points month-on-month respectively.

In April 2022, the wholesale volume of passenger vehicles was 948,000 units, a sharp decline both year-on-year and month-on-month, with a decline of more than 40%; due to the spread of the epidemic in many provinces and the shortage of imported parts affected by the epidemic, and the inability of domestic parts system suppliers in the Yangtze River Delta region to supply in time, some even completely stopped production and operations, offline demand was greatly suppressed. However, online attention is still active, making the overall online market heat basically flat; overall, the overall market product competitiveness increased by 0.3 percentage points month-on-month.

Trend of product competitiveness index in the sedan market
Overall, the product competitiveness index of the sedan market in April 2022 was 90.2, down 0.6 points from the previous month. Among them, the product evaluation and price strength indicators fell by 1.4 and 0.3 points respectively from the previous month, while the user reputation and market heat indicators rose by 0.3 and 0.1 points respectively from the previous month.

Trend of product competitiveness index in the SUV market

Overall, the SUV market product competitiveness index in April 2022 was 90.8, up 1.8 points month-on-month. Due to the sharp drop in the wholesale volume of major SUV models such as CR-V, CS75 PLUS, Binzhi, and XR-V in April, the product evaluation index increased significantly month-on-month, with an increase of 4.2 points.

MPV market product competitiveness index trend
Overall, the MPV market product competitiveness index in April 2022 was 96.9, an increase of 1.4 points month-on-month. Among them, the product evaluation and user reputation indicators increased significantly month-on-month, by 2.6 and 2.3 points respectively.
