The American automotive website Cars.com recently released the 2022 American-Made Index (AMI), in which Tesla Model Y ranked first, becoming the model with the most "Made in the USA" elements. The index ranks cars sold in the United States based on their contribution to the U.S. economy, with criteria including manufacturing location and parts procurement. This is the second consecutive year that Tesla has topped the list, except that last year the top-ranked model was the Model 3. In this year's list, the Model 3 ranked second. Tesla's other two models, Model X and Model S, also made it into the top ten, ranking 5th and 6th respectively.
Cars.com's "Made in the USA Index" is based on five factors: final assembly location; the percentage of parts produced in the U.S. and Canada; the country of origin of available engines; the country of origin of available transmissions; and the percentage of U.S. manufacturing employees.
