Ford faces class-action lawsuit over Mustang's lack of power

According to foreign media reports, more than 4,000 Ford car owners claimed that the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang they drove was prone to overheating and lack of horsepower during driving, and on this basis, they demanded Ford Motor Company to pay $228 million in compensation in federal court.

The lawsuit alleges that Ford has helped fix the problem on 2017 models, but requires owners of 2016 models to fix it themselves, saying the 2016 models are out of warranty.

The 71-page class action lawsuit opened in the U.S. District Court in Miami on Wednesday, and the professional class action law firm Hagens Berman is in charge of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims that Ford equipped the Shelby GT350 with defective transmissions and rear differentials, which would cause the power systems of some cars to fail to meet the conditions for driving on the track. It is estimated that 3,991 Shelby 350GTs have such defects. It is reported that there are only four registered plaintiffs in the lawsuit, and the fault involves as many as 4,000 car owners. The price of each car is about $57,000, and the total loss caused by this failure is about $228 million.

A Ford spokesman said: "Ford is committed to providing quality products to our customers, however, we do not comment on pending litigation."

The Shelby GT350 Mustang went on sale in late 2015 and is powered by Ford's most powerful 526-horsepower 5.2-liter aspirated engine, which is also Ford's fastest eight-cylinder engine, with a speed of up to 8,250 rpm.
