Google partners with car rental company Avis to manage its self-driving cars
According to Bloomberg, Alphabet's self-driving technology company Waymo has signed an agreement with Avis Budget Group, which will help Waymo manage its driverless car fleet. Under the agreement, Avis Budget Group will provide storage and service for Waymo's 600 Chrysler Pacifica minivans in Phoenix. Vehicle maintenance will include basic services such as cleaning, oil changes, tire changes, and accessory reservations and installation. Waymo owns the ownership of these cars and pays service fees to Avis Budget Group. The deal will help Avis become the gateway to self-driving car services. As more and more driverless cars enter the market, the cooperation with Waymo will also bring first-hand experience to Avis technicians. Zipcar, an online car-hailing service under Avis Budget Group, currently has more than 1 million users. Waymo CEO John Krafcik said that Avis and its thousands of rental points will help Waymo "bring technology to more people in more places." He said: "As the public increasingly uses our self-driving cars, our vehicles require standard maintenance and cleaning services to be ready for passengers' needs at any time." Avis has been investing heavily in information technology and data to optimize its business and user experience. The company is developing a fleet pricing management system that uses algorithms to automatically adjust prices. Recently, the company also launched a new Avis.com platform and mobile app to process payments. For Waymo, this cooperation helps the company establish direct connections with interested users, and its competitors Tesla and Uber are currently stepping up their efforts in this regard. In addition, this can also help Waymo provide large-scale transportation services using driverless cars.
