Flying cars test the waters in the tourism industry, Geely Travel plans to expand into Hainan

On June 3, Geely Group (New Business) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Geely Group, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hainan Agricultural Reclamation Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. The two parties will cooperate in four areas: Xiaolinggou travel, Cao Cao special car, methanol fuel and methanol cars, and flying cars.

According to official company information, Caocao Special Car is an online car-hailing platform under Geely Group. It has been launched in 24 cities across the country and has more than 23,000 vehicles in operation. Xiaolinggou Travel is a shared travel project in which Geely Group has a stake, and has put 40,000 vehicles into operation in 21 cities across the country.

Hainan State Farm Holding Group is the largest state-owned enterprise in Hainan Province. Geely Group (new business) will leverage its resources in Hainan Province to promote the development of its shared travel and online car-hailing businesses.

At the same time, Geely Group (new business) will also take advantage of Hainan Province's opportunity to develop high-end tourism industry and introduce its Terrafugia flying car technology to Hainan for trial and development of offshore and near-shore island tourism projects.

At the Boao Forum for Asia earlier this year, Hainan Governor Shen Xiaoming said the province plans to make new energy vehicles available across the island by 2030.

In order to cooperate with the promotion of new energy vehicles and energy-saving and environmentally friendly vehicles, scientifically and rationally control the number of motor vehicles, and gradually stop the sale of fuel vehicles, Hainan Province has implemented a license plate restriction policy since May 16, 2018.

According to Hainan Province's "13th Five-Year Plan" new energy vehicle promotion goals, by the end of 2020, Hainan Province will have promoted more than 30,000 new energy vehicles and built more than 28,000 charging piles. By the end of 2017, Hainan Province had more than 15,000 new energy vehicles and built a total of 2,881 decentralized charging piles.

In this cooperation, Geely Group (new business) will also take advantage of Hainan Province's methanol resources to promote the use of methanol-fueled vehicles and work together to establish a methanol fuel distribution system and a network of refueling service stations covering the entire province to accelerate the adjustment of Hainan's energy consumption structure.
