The trade war has made it difficult to sell American cars, with sales falling 22.9% in June

Affected by the Sino-US trade friction, Chinese consumers have become more inclined to avoid American products when buying cars. In June, passenger car sales increased by 2.3% year-on-year to 1.8742 million units. Among them, sales of American cars dropped sharply by 22.9%, Japanese cars increased by 3.5%, and German cars increased by 4.9%.

A salesperson at a General Motors 4S store in Beijing said, "As people's impression of the United States has deteriorated, some customers have turned to Japanese and German brands."

Ford's sales in June dropped 38%, a larger decline than the same period last year. SAIC-GM, GM's main joint venture, saw its sales in June drop 8% year-on-year.

As China-South Korea relations improved, Hyundai Motor's sales recovered to twice the same period last year.

Statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on July 11 showed that China's new car sales in June increased by 4.8% year-on-year to 2.2737 million units. New car sales from January to June increased by 5.6% to 14.0665 million units. Sales of new energy vehicles increased to more than twice the same period last year, reaching 410,000 units.
