Alibaba Wang Mao: AliOS gives cars the "five senses" to communicate with you like a human

On July 27, the 2nd China Automotive Intelligent Cockpit Forum was held in Guangzhou. Wang Mao, general manager of AliOS, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech. He proposed that the future direction should be full-vehicle intelligence, which is based on OS-based integrated intelligence, including the integration of sensing devices, interaction methods, and computing capabilities.

When talking about how AliOS creates full-vehicle intelligence, Wang Mao used the evolution of the nervous system as an example. He believes that the role played by OS in smart hardware is similar to that of the nervous system. "AliOS's mission is to promote the evolution of the nervous system in the automotive industry, from the original flatworm-like network to an intelligent nervous system with a 'brain'." Wang Mao said, "We hope to build a 'brain' that connects everything and realizes the connection between cars, people and cars, and roads. To achieve true full-vehicle intelligence, we must have five major elements: full-vehicle perception, collaborative computing, multi-modal interaction, interconnected services, and an open ecosystem."

Wang Mao further explained the key elements of achieving full vehicle intelligence. First, he proposed the new concept of "full vehicle perception, so that the car has the 'five senses' like humans." He said that as the degree of electronicization of automobiles increases, there are more and more perception devices on the car body, including various sensors, cameras, laser radars, etc. Through the integration of perception data and AI capabilities, the car can better understand itself (the car), passengers (people), and the surrounding environment (roads), and create better services based on this.

Wang Mao believes that the collaborative computing between the cloud and the end is to achieve "closer cooperation between the cerebellum and brain". He said that with the rapid development of in-car AI application scenarios, the requirements for computing power and latency are becoming more diverse, which requires us to achieve a close combination of the "cerebellum" in the car and the "brain" in the cloud, and achieve perfect coordination of data and computing power.

The interaction between people and cars should not be a single mode. He proposed "let the car communicate with you like a person" and choose the appropriate method at the right time. Wang Mao introduced that "AliOS is currently researching multi-modal interactions including multi-screen interaction, gesture recognition, voice recognition, image recognition, etc. Some new results will be released soon."

Finally, when talking about interconnected services and open ecology, Wang Mao said, "AliOS proposed the concept of light service at the beginning of its establishment, hoping to break the high walls of fragmented apps and bring services directly to people. At present, we have connected to many services inside and outside the Alibaba ecosystem. In the future, we will open more capabilities of AliOS to more developers to provide better services to users together."
