White goods overcome innovation barriers with AI+IoT, but still have difficulty solving user pain points under market demand
Artificial intelligence-related technologies include big data, machine learning, and other aspects, and the continuous breakthroughs in algorithms have made the integration of technology and other industries more and more perfect. Home appliances embedded with smart technology have not only become a market trend, but also rely on users' life scenes and business scenes to create artificial intelligence solutions for home appliances. Major business leaders are increasingly aware of the importance of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Product function improvement is limited. The white appliance market is reborn based on smart technology . White appliances have long been regarded as a mature market under price competition. Emerging home appliance companies use low costs to seize the market, and traditional manufacturers can only follow up by force. In the mature market, the functions of various home appliances have long been fixed, and the evolution of home appliances brought by technological progress is nothing more than an improvement in performance. However, the birth of new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence has given the white appliance market more opportunities for breakthroughs in limited changes. According to the CNBC Global CFO Survey Committee, more than 26% of chief financial officers believe that artificial intelligence and machine learning are critical to their companies, and nearly 44% say they are very worthy of attention. For the white appliance market, if you want to break this limitation, the first thing is to create new uses for home appliances. However, artificial intelligence is not a universal solution for many smart home appliances, and it is not applicable to all industries and fields. Differentiated artificial intelligence solutions must be created for different scenarios and different home appliance functions. The Internet of Things has now become a new engine for the future economy. With huge market development prospects, the Internet of Things industry alliances in various regions of China have risen rapidly and achieved rapid growth and value. Take Jiangsu as an example. In 2015, the Internet of Things industry in Jiangsu Province achieved business revenue of 360.7 billion yuan and maintained a high growth rate of more than 30% per year. At the beginning of the birth of the Internet of Things technology, the new use of white appliances that people could imagine at that time was the networked home appliances in the smart home, such as installing a display on the refrigerator or letting the refrigerator have its own AI like Sharp, providing users with relevant consultation and even healthy recipes. However, due to the lack of suitable killer applications, the market response of such products was poor. To break free from the shackles of the market, we must first break through the cross-border barriers of artificial intelligence. Although there is a precedent of installing AI on vacuum cleaners to transform into sweeping robots and then open up new markets, in fact, if the white appliance market wants to break free from the shackles, it cannot use the installation of IoT or AI applications on existing home appliances to achieve value innovation. In contrast, the automatic folding machine launched by Japanese startup 7 Dreamers Laboratories and Panasonic has created a new market by breaking the scope of the existing white appliance market. The construction company Daiwa House Industry has gone a step further and allowed the automatic folding machine to connect to the family database through the IoT to further identify and classify personal clothing, and is expected to provide clothing procurement-related services, such as automatically providing sizes for online clothing orders to reduce the problem of returns for unfitting clothes. In short, the existing market needs new concepts, which can be realized with the help of new IoT and AI technologies, but creating new concepts is another challenge for many home appliance manufacturers. Nowadays, artificial intelligence has penetrated into every aspect of people's daily lives. Smart home appliances use software functions such as data collection and voice recognition, and then the results of algorithm analysis are passed to the hardware to feedback people's real needs. Unlike traditional microcomputer home appliances, smart home appliances are machines that can learn and think, changing passive responses to active ideas. However, due to the mechanized and linear thinking of existing products, the level of intelligent thinking is very shallow. However, in the next 10 years, as the learning ability of robots continues to deepen, the thinking results of artificial intelligence will be more accurate and humanized, but such applications will still be preferred in the commercial market. Therefore, in a short period of time, home appliance companies may encounter embarrassment if they want to leverage the mass consumer market with artificial intelligence. At the end of March this year, SoftBank Robotics Holdings, which develops and sells Pepper under Japan's SoftBank Group, fell into insolvency. It is reported that the company has continued to lose money because the profit margin of humanoid robots is not high and it is difficult to offset research and development expenses. Although the company has not announced its performance, according to Tokyo Shoko Research, the company's operating income in fiscal 2015 was 2.2 billion yen and its net loss was 11.7 billion yen (about 700 million yuan). Pepper was once a "favorite". 1,000 units are sold out every month, and they are sold out in less than a minute. Jack Ma, Masayoshi Son, and Terry Gou, the three richest people in China, all endorsed it. But then, due to its single function and insufficient selling points, it quickly became a useless toy from an intelligent commercial product. At present, most artificial intelligence can only help people solve some technical problems, but it is a long way to go to replace human thinking or even become another brain of humans. The development of artificial intelligence consumer electronics may focus on function realization, while user interaction will exist in the form of lace functions, and will be continuously improved in terms of function for the purpose of bringing experience fun. It can be seen that it will take a long time of accumulation and precipitation to solve the pain points of users with artificial intelligence.
