Toyota is making frequent moves in the Chinese market, aiming to boost sales in China by leveraging new energy vehicles

Toyota has made a lot of moves recently: cooperating with Geely on hybrid technology; expanding electric vehicle planning from China to other countries; and the news of Lexus localization has been reported again. Toyota has made many layouts in the Chinese market.

Toyota is the top automaker among the Fortune 500, but its performance in the Chinese market is somewhat unsatisfactory. The sales of Volkswagen, GM, Toyota, and Honda are all higher than Toyota. In 2017, Toyota's sales in China were only 1.13 million vehicles, while Volkswagen's sales last year were 4.02 million vehicles.

Toyota plans to increase its current production capacity by 35% by 2021. Currently, Toyota has started capacity expansion at its joint venture plant with FAW and GAC.

Toyota has an advantage in hybrid technology, and its turbocharging technology is also conducive to coping with the double-point policy.

In August this year, Toyota announced to cooperate with Geely Auto in hybrid technology. This is the first time that Toyota has shared hybrid technology with its Chinese counterparts. Toyota hopes to reduce the application cost of hybrid technology in China through sharing and collaboration.

Toyota plans to launch more than 10 pure electric models worldwide by 2025. By 2030, the sales of electrified vehicles will exceed 5.5 million, accounting for more than 50% of the total sales, of which pure electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will exceed 1 million, accounting for more than 10% of the total sales, and hybrid vehicle sales will reach 4.5 million.

In 2020, Toyota will first introduce pure electric models in the Chinese market, followed by Japan, India, the United States, and Europe.
