As long as charging stations are popularized, will 300 kilometers of driving range of electric vehicles be enough? We find this is unrealistic!

The statement made by Xu Heyi, chairman of BAIC Motor, that 300 kilometers of range is enough for electric vehicles really surprised people. He believes that when the number of charging piles increases effectively and the technology of rapid battery replacement is improved, the range of electric vehicles will not need to be too much, 300 kilometers is enough, and more is a waste.

Regarding this statement, I think that the idea of increasing the number of charging piles is very good and can be realized, but it takes time. How long will it take, ten years or eight years? This is the key to the problem. In other words, at present, this idea can only be a fantasy and has no guiding significance for actual experience.

So, how popular are our charging piles now? We conducted a survey. First of all, let me reveal the results, which are really not optimistic. If you, as a consumer, listened to Chairman Xu and bought an electric car with a range of 300 kilometers, hoping to charge and go, then the result of going out to do things is likely to be looking for charging piles all the way, and the range anxiety will increase exponentially, and the electric car will really become an electric dad.

Opening an electric vehicle charging station app, you can see that there are indeed quite a few charging stations between the Third and Fourth Ring Roads in Beijing.

We clicked on a route to check its detailed information. We found several problems:

Case 1: Mobile payment is not supported

It's 2020, and there's still no support for mobile payments? You can't just apply for an electricity card after charging it once, right?

Case 2: Charging pile offline

This charging station looks good, with two fast charging piles. However, let me tell you, this charging station originally had two charging piles, but one of them was removed and the other has never been online.

Situation 3: Not allowing you to charge

The charging station shows that it is open from 19:00 to 7:00, but this is out of date. The school has banned external vehicles from entering the south side of the school, including the area where the charging piles are located. Whether you can charge here depends on the mood of the school security.

Case 4: Oil truck takes up space

The free parking spots are built in areas where parking is difficult, so the parking spaces are vacant 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because there are always gas trucks occupying the spaces.

In addition, there are some common situations:

This charging station seems to be fine, with a luxurious lineup of 50 National Grid charging piles and an idle display. But if you really go there, you will find that these charging piles are actually closed. Isn't it annoying?

This is the situation, this is the situation. Far water cannot quench near thirst. It is completely unrealistic to expect charging piles or changing batteries to make up for the lack of range, because the current popularity of charging piles is very limited.

Moreover, the above example is in Beijing, which is relatively advanced in the construction of charging piles. In other cities, the number of charging piles is not so large, and it can even be said to be quite limited. This also leads to the fact that most of the time we can only rely on home charging piles, and dare not regard external charging piles as reliable.

In this case, is the 300-kilometer range of an electric car enough? There is no need to make a judgment, the answer is obvious.

I sincerely hope that Chinese new energy vehicle companies can face themselves, continue to develop new technologies, and increase the range of mileage with real money. Don't always have some fantasies. Any "overtaking on a curve" is not as solid as the results of taking one step at a time. As for the popularization of charging piles, I think it is very important, but it is a bit uncertain to see them everywhere in three to five years. If you want to drive an electric car comfortably, it is more practical to buy a long-range one at present. As for charging piles, hehehe, you know.
