Face ID is undoubtedly a highlight of Apple's new iPhone X. It is actually a facial recognition system for users to log in to the device. Apple claims that it is fast, simple and secure. Literally, Face ID is more advanced than the facial recognition technology of other mobile phones. Of course, this will take some time to manifest. Although Apple says Face ID is very convenient to use, some potential buyers have reservations. Apple has released many details about Face ID, but there are still many questions that have not been answered. Foreign media Cnet recently raised a question, that is, what do you think of applying Face ID to devices such as iMac and MacBook? Microsoft has launched Windows Hello, which allows users to log in to devices by scanning their faces. This feature has been launched on Windows 10 systems, and users can use compatible webcams for facial recognition. If Face ID can achieve a similar experience on the MacBook, it must be a pretty good thing. In fact, the idea of bringing iPhone X's Face ID to the MacBook is not as weird as we thought. At present, Apple has integrated Touch ID into the Touch Bar, and the security of Touch ID technology on the MacBook is as good as that on the iPhone. If Touch ID can do it, why can't Face ID do it? To implement Face ID on the MacBook, a new camera and sensor array is necessary because the iPhone X uses the front-facing camera and a special infrared emitter to map the 3D contours of the user's face. Although this will bring some changes to the design of the MacBook, the changes will not be significant, at least not as big as adding a Touch Bar to the MacBook. Another question that needs to be considered is, if Face ID is really introduced to Mac, which models are more suitable? Because there may be a problem of too many biometric systems. After the iPhone X was launched, most iPhones still use Touch ID, and in the current MacBook product line, only some MacBook Pros support Touch ID, and other Macs do not have biometric recognition functions. Considering the configuration, the MacBook Pro series is a good choice for adding Face ID. The iMac desktop is also suitable, but the low-resolution camera of the 12-inch MacBook is a bit bad. If Face ID is to be added, it may require a major design change. In comparison, the MacBook Air is more suitable, after all, this product line has not changed much for many years. At this point, the iPad seems to be quite suitable. After all, the iPad and the iPhone are quite close in design and function. I would not be surprised if the iPad Pro uses Face ID before the MacBook. Cnet editor Scott Stein said Face ID is easier to use on a laptop than a phone, "because on a laptop, you're always facing the camera, and it's in the perfect position."
