It has become an industry practice for manufacturers to invite journalists to test drive new cars. However, according to media reports, a journalist was recently found by traffic police to have expired temporary license plates when he was test driving a Volvo XC40 pure electric car, resulting in 12 points deduction and a fine.

In addition, the automotive media person is still in the probationary period for his motorcycle license and needs to retake the test. In other words, this media person will not be able to drive a car again before he retakes the license plate test. As the leaked picture says, "his job is ruined."

After the incident was exposed, it immediately caused heated discussions among netizens. Some netizens believed that the automotive media person was indeed not rigorous enough; some netizens believed that the organizer, as the inviter, should have handled the details of the test drive car more carefully.

It is reported that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred.

In April last year, a screenshot of WeChat Moments circulated online showed that the car brand Leapmotor used fake temporary license plates when organizing a test drive, which also resulted in the media teacher who conducted the test drive being deducted 12 points and detained.

Subsequently, Zhao Gang, vice president of Leapmotor, stated on Weibo that the temporary license plate was handled by a commissioned service provider, and apologized to the media teacher. At the same time, he promised to provide a dedicated car travel service until he re-obtained his driver's license.

As of press time, Volvo has not yet responded to the incident.

According to the Traffic Law, if a motor vehicle uses a fake temporary license plate on the road, it will be regarded as using a forged or altered motor vehicle license plate. The motor vehicle will be detained and 12 points will be deducted, and the person will be fined not less than RMB 2,000 and not more than RMB 5,000, and detained for not more than 15 days.
