According to foreign media reports, on Thursday local time, the China Passenger Car Association said that in August this year, Tesla China sold 77,000 China-made vehicles, a month-on-month increase of 173% and a year-on-year increase of 74%. Foreign media said that although Tesla's sales data in August was much higher than the 28,000 vehicles in July, it was basically the same as the 78,000 vehicles in June, indicating that the growth rate will face challenges in China, the world's largest auto market, as the economy slows and buyers cut spending. At the beginning of August, data released by the China Passenger Car Association showed that Tesla China sold about 28,217 China-made vehicles in July this year, a month-on-month decrease of 64.2% compared with 78,906 vehicles in June this year, and a year-on-year decrease of 14.41% compared with 32,968 vehicles in July last year. The reason was that the production line of its Shanghai Super Factory was interrupted due to planned upgrades. Tesla currently has a super factory in Shanghai, which underwent a two-week production line optimization and upgrade in July, which led to a temporary production interruption. In the second quarter 2022 financial report released in July, Tesla stated that due to the capacity upgrade of the Shanghai factory, the annual production capacity of the factory has exceeded 750,000 vehicles, making it Tesla's highest-output super factory for the first time and surpassing Tesla's Fremont factory in California for the first time. Currently, Tesla produces domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y in its Shanghai Super Factory. The cars produced by this factory are not only supplied to the domestic market, but also to the foreign market. At the end of July last year, Tesla said that thanks to strong demand in the local US market and global average cost optimization, the company had completed the transformation of the Shanghai Super Factory into a major automobile export center. At the beginning of August, the China Passenger Car Association stated that in July this year, Tesla China exported 19,756 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, much higher than the 968 vehicles in June this year, but lower than the 24,347 vehicles in July last year.
