The off-road vehicle community may really be about to change.

On November 12, BYD and Huawei jointly developed a hard-core SUV, the Fangcheng Baobao 8, which was officially launched on the market. It is not only equipped with Huawei's Qiankun intelligent driving system ADS 3.0, but also almost all of BYD's own core black technologies are "on board", which shows its strength.

It was thought that such a technological "lineup" would definitely "control" consumers in terms of price, but the starting price of 379,800 yuan came as a surprise to everyone. Even the top-end model was priced at only 407,800 yuan, which is more than 10,000 yuan lower than the starting price of 428,000 yuan for the Tank 700.

Many people may have understood that Leopard 8 is here to "rectify" the industry. Its intelligent and courageous product strength, coupled with its "unexpected" price, is obviously intended to define a new standard for smart hard-core off-road vehicles.

Some people may object. After all, many mainstream car companies are now making plans in the off-road field, and there are more and more models that can be used in both urban and wild areas. Why has the Leopard 8 become a "disruptor"?

There are many participants in the off-road vehicle circle, and there are enough options for users, but looking at the entire off-road field, almost no one really covers the core "pain points" of users and exceeds user expectations. If you don't believe it, you can recall whether the hard-core off-road SUVs we have seen in the past are all "multiple choice questions".

Off-road enthusiasts often face this kind of frustration: if you want a tough appearance and excellent performance, you can't get a sufficiently excellent smart cockpit and a sufficiently powerful configuration. If you want strong power and excellent off-road performance, you have to compromise on space and comfort. Some models are half off-road and half smart, barely making up a "full score" answer sheet, but in fact the user's off-road experience and smart experience are only 50 points.

When most car companies are "educating" and "guiding" consumers that "you can't have your cake and eat it too", the industry as a whole has limited improvements in this area, and the standards for smart hard-core off-road vehicles will naturally not be high.

Things were different after the Leopard 8 appeared.

This time, the core highlights of Formula Leopard 8 are mainly two: wisdom and courage.

Let's talk about "intelligence" first. In the era of intelligent electric vehicles, everyone will regard "intelligent driving" as the main selling point of vehicles, but in fact, many models with off-road attributes will weaken this point. Of course, this is understandable. After all, traditional off-road models such as Prado, Land Cruiser, Patrol, and Wrangler are very reluctant to use intelligent driving, which has led many "latecomers" to believe that off-road vehicles can "sacrifice" the intelligent driving experience.

The consumer groups of off-road vehicles are diverse, some are professional off-road enthusiasts, and some just want to challenge themselves occasionally and relax. Regardless of which consumer group they are, the routes they take are very different. Before reaching the off-road section, there will be a lot of urban roads and highways. At this time, if there is no assistance from high-level intelligent driving, it is equivalent to consuming most of the energy at the beginning, and when off-road is really needed, it is impossible to achieve a better state.

Leopard 8 has obviously understood the deeper needs of users. The Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0 it is equipped with can achieve full-scene connectivity from "parking space to parking space", and can autonomously respond to complex scenarios such as gates, roundabouts, and U-turns on narrow roads. It also supports a series of functions such as leaving the car and parking in, parking driving, and remote car moving.

Of course, it is not just the intelligent driving experience that has been revolutionized. Another highlight of the Leopard 8 is its courage. It uses the newly upgraded DMO plug-in hybrid platform, which is also the world's first hybrid platform that is mainly electric and has both urban and wild applications.

The platform is powerful enough, so the vehicle's foundation is naturally not weak. The system power of this car is as high as 550kW, the maximum torque is 760N·m, and the acceleration time from 0 to 100km/h is only 4.8 seconds. Off-road enthusiasts should know what this power means.

At the same time, it also has the Yunnian-P system and the non-load-bearing body required for hard-core SUVs. The chassis softness, hardness, height, and stiffness all support adjustment. The suspension can be adjusted up and down 140mm and the maximum wading depth supports 890mm.

In addition, this car is also equipped with "three locks" and a low-speed four-wheel drive mode. It provides multiple driving modes such as snow, sand, mud, mountain, rock, wading, racing, crawling, anti-skid chains, and leopard U-turn when it leaves the factory. It can be regarded as a natural strongman.

At the press conference, Fangcheng Leopard also demonstrated that Leopard 8 can pass many difficult challenges such as tug-of-war, climbing, starting at a 100% slope and climbing a 70% slope in reverse gear in the violent mode, and pass them all perfectly. How powerful is this mode? Let's put it this way, if you like "extreme challenges", the violent mode with high torque and ultra-low power delay is always available.

For a hardcore SUV, powerful power and off-road performance are basic "qualities", but not many can achieve the level of Leopard 8. Of course, having powerful off-road capabilities does not mean that Leopard 8 can only go off-road, its "target use scenario" covers household needs.

For example, it has a large body of nearly 5.2 meters, and the passenger compartment is quite spacious; the car is equipped with a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument, a 17.3-inch central control screen, a 50-inch AR-HUD, and a 12.3-inch exclusive entertainment screen in front of the co-pilot; and it has added "refrigerator, color TV, large sofa", the newly released DiLink 150 car system, and the "BYD9000" car chip customized by MediaTek are all installed in the car. The fuel consumption of only 8.5L per 100 kilometers, the pure electric range of 125km, and the comprehensive range of 1200km take into account the concern of family users about the cost of using cars.

It can be said that everything Leopard 8 does is challenging the previous impression of "intelligent hardcore off-road". A hardcore SUV with off-road attributes, equipped with Huawei's mature high-end intelligent driving products, has strong off-road capabilities, and has the advantages of ultra-large space, ultra-high intelligence, and ultra-low vehicle cost. This is undoubtedly at the forefront of the industry.

A "disruptor" with leading strength will always have the confidence to define new standards. Leopard 8 is equivalent to returning the seemingly "reasonable" status quo of the industry in the field of smart hard-core off-road to normal. And it sets an example and defines a new standard. If other car companies also follow this standard to build hard-core SUVs, the user experience will enter the next dimension and the industry will develop faster.

And this is undoubtedly the real deep meaning behind Leopard 8's entry into the market - redefining the new standard for smart hard-core off-road.
