Google Nexus 5 Review

Google Nexus 5 Review
When Nexus 4 was first launched, it was sold out for a long time because of its top configuration and the high-cost starry sky glass body, which was sold for $299. Nexus 5 still has top configuration, but the back cover is made of plastic with lower difficulty, and the price is $349. As a result, the supply is normal, which once again verifies the law of money. The design of 5 is the same as 4, and the screen size has been expanded from 4.7 inches to 4.95 inches. Google believes that this is also a step into the 5-inch threshold, so it is named "5". Abandoning the 15:9 ratio and adopting the more mainstream 16:9, this small change of 0.2 inches also indicates that we are very close to the best sweet spot of device size in the palm of a person's hand. The front is pitch black, with only the camera, earpiece and screen. The earpiece of the white panda phone is white. The reason why the light and distance sensors are not mentioned is that they are hidden too deep to be found. The breathing light is at the bottom and the edges are softly lit. In addition, there are no more logos and buttons, which makes people confused every time they pick it up from the desktop. The bezels are a little higher than the screen. Although the plastic is soft and doesn't cut your hands, it's still uncomfortable to slide your fingers across the screen. There's a dividing line between the back cover and the sides, which means that although it's an integrated body, the back cover should also be glued or stuck on independently. During the disassembly, it was found that the back cover was stuck, which is very easy to open, and it's no different from a non-integrated body. You can replace the battery by simply screwing two screws. Although this still doesn't make it as convenient as bringing two extra batteries when you go out, it's still okay to replace a new battery after the battery life of the phone drops significantly after a long time of use. This design is between integrated and non-integrated. The back is plastic, with a skin-like coating on the surface, the same as the back of the Nexus 7. This coating feels soft, not cold or greasy, and is a high-end plastic. Skin-like texture is resistant to falling and small scratches. Oily fingerprints are not noticeable on black. It has a certain friction and is safer when placed on a tilted table. The disadvantage is that it will cause permanent and unbearable damage when cut by sharp objects. In theory, it is afraid of acidic liquids such as sweat. Low-grade skin-like coatings will peel after being in contact with hands for a long time. Google should not make such a low-level mistake. It should be no problem to stick to it for two or three years. But everyone should be careful when cleaning and do not use ordinary plastic cleaners. The entire back camera is unusually abrupt. Many people speculate why Google made the camera so large. It may be to accommodate optical image stabilization or to increase the anti-light transmission area of the edge of the lens. But through disassembly, it can be seen that the camera itself is not large, and the G2's optical image stabilization camera can also be made very small. The reason why it is so big, I guess, is that the camera position overlaps with the screen, making the camera the thickest part of the whole phone. The designer did not want to make the whole phone thicker to accommodate the camera, nor did he want to make it high in the middle and low on both sides like HTC One, so he just made a protruding round table. If it is small, it will not look good and will be easily scratched when placed on the table. If it is big, it will make the camera look very awesome. That's all. Other reasons may be that people think too much. Thickness 8.8mm, weight 131g. Before picking up an object for the first time, the brain always estimates the weight by visually measuring the volume. HTC One and 920 are like picking up a piece of metal, iPhone 5 is like picking up a piece of glass, while Nexus 5 is large in size and light in weight, and it feels more like a piece of plastic. Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch IPS screen with a pixel density of 440. It is fully laminated and feels very good to operate. The color reproduction is very accurate when viewed from the front, and the effect is close to that of iPhone 5s. The overall workmanship and materials are not as breakthrough and amazing as the glass material of Nexus 4, but are more pragmatic instead. Instead of pursuing integration, which is very difficult to produce, users can feel the feeling of an integrated body through tight buckles. In short, Nexus 5 has returned to simplicity and has made a good balance between cost and experience. It is plain but not cheap. Nexus phones are the test field of Google's latest version of Android system. After Android 4.0, the code name has always been Jelly Bean. This time, the internal code name of Android 4.4 has been changed to Kitkat. In addition to the fact that the project manager likes to eat KitKat, it also implies that this is a major upgrade, so major that... Nestle has specially launched a commemorative edition KitKat for this purpose. The most intuitive change is that the color scheme has become fresher, and the background of the upper status bar and the lower virtual button bar have become transparent. This small change makes users feel that the screen has suddenly become larger, instead of being cut off from the upper and lower two bars, and they feel much more comfortable. The desktop application icons are reduced from five columns to four columns. Once the icons become larger, they are easier to click and more cute. The background of the application warehouse and the background of the function bar in many applications are no longer completely black but semi-transparent, which is very beautiful. In short, these changes in appearance have greatly increased the friendliness of the entire interface. The second major change is that the system has lower operating requirements and can run smoothly on mobile phones with 512M memory. This has no impact on Nexus 5, but it has saved a number of old machines. This small matter also reflects the difference between the old and new forces. Microsoft and Intel have jointly raised the hardware requirements for each system upgrade, trying every means to make users pay again. Internet companies only think about how to make users use it more smoothly. The third is that Google is finally going to operate on the annoying virtual buttons and add a full-screen mode. In actual use, we found that in addition to the transparent background of the main interface, there is still a black line in each application. This is because Kitkat's "full-screen mode" only provides a technical interface. Any application can call it at any time if it wants to. After calling, the button can become transparent or hidden and then pulled up to pop up in two modes. People haven't felt it on Nexus 5 because the various applications have not been upgraded in time. I believe that in the near future, the virtual button problem can be well solved. This... is much more appealing than Meizu Smartbar, and the implementation speed will be faster. At the beginning of Android design, in order to adapt to various mobile phones with various CPUs and various configurations, the Dalvik virtual machine mechanism was adopted. Applications run in the virtual machine, regardless of the configuration of the mobile phone, and the Dalvik virtual machine is responsible for translating the program into a language suitable for the current mobile phone each time it runs. This practice is a practice of sacrificing performance to ensure compatibility. Android 4.4 uses the new ART virtual machine, which is also a virtual machine, but it is "translated" every time the program is installed. After the installation is completed, the program is as fast as it is customized for this mobile phone. The ART method sacrifices the speed and size of the program when it is installed for the first time while ensuring compatibility, but the high running efficiency in return is no less than that of Apple's system that does not use a virtual machine. The introduction of the ART mode is regarded by critics as the wisest decision made by Google in recent years. In the future, as it is improved and perfected in the official version, I believe this is the clarion call for Android to wash away the shame of high configuration and low performance and charge against iOS.
