It's time to compare iPhone 5S and Nexus 5

Every once in a while, I see iOS and Android being compared, and both sides are always criticizing each other. As the owner of two benchmark phones in the two camps (iPhone 5S & Nexus 5), I feel it is necessary to share with you my own views on the two phones and two systems.

1. Background Although I can't say that I have seen countless phones, I can be considered a senior mobile phone enthusiast. As for Android, I used an HTC Sensation for two years, and I also developed various bootloaders, S-off, recovery, etc. by myself. I have also used major ROMs, Cyanogenmod (9-11), MIUI, etc., and I check the xda-developer forum almost every day. In general, I feel that I know Android by heart.

As for iOS, I used to play with iPod Touch and iPad. I jailbroken them myself, mainly for downloading free .ipa. I also dabbled in plug-ins on Cydia. I bought these two phones at the end of last year. Here, as a "moderate user", I would like to talk to you about them.

2. Appearance and workmanship

Everyone should have seen the iPhone a lot, so I won’t go into detail. My personal conclusion about the Nexus 5 is that it’s more fun to hold than to look at.

1. The ultra-narrow bezel makes one-handed operation possible, and the high screen-to-body ratio also makes it look more fashionable from the front.

2. The thickness is almost the same as iPhone5S.

3. It feels very light.

4. The most important point is that the coating of the shell feels great! I think it has the best feel among non-metallic materials. (Some people may prefer the cold feeling of metal)

5. The overall design looks very simple, and the lines of the whole machine are quite stylish and refined.

Let's talk about the work
iPhone currently represents the highest level of mobile phone technology, and everyone should have the same opinion on this. My personal opinion is that the workmanship of Nexus 5 is above average, not detailed enough, but worth the price. It is reflected in the uneven feel of the buttons, and the cutting of the speaker and USB port is a bit rough. However, the one-piece non-detachable design is a plus point, and the overall feel is still quite stable and solid.

3. Screen I single out the screen for discussion because I personally think the Nexus 5 screen is far better than the iPhone’s.
1. I won’t talk about size

2. The ppi of Nexus 5 is much higher than that of iPhone, which means the screen is more delicate than that of iPhone. Some people may ask, isn't iPhone known as retina display? It doesn't make much sense to exceed retina, right? I said that I used N first and then i. What I am most uncomfortable with is not the size of the screen, but the roughness of the text. If you use iPhone and other 1080p machines at the same time, you should have the same feeling.

3. Nexus 5 is said to use LG IPS screen produced by the same factory as iPhone, but I personally feel that the screen quality is slightly worse than iPhone, it looks more yellow, and the brightness and transparency are also a little worse. I personally guess that it may be the pixel density that affects the transparency.

4. System

Well, the most talked about topic is iOS vs Android. Let me start with my personal conclusion:

1. For light users, iOS is undoubtedly superior in terms of fluency, security, and ease of use.

2. For moderate users (like me), both are enough to meet my needs of browsing the web and daily applications. But iOS has a better frame rate and is more comfortable to use.

3. For heavy users (flashing enthusiasts, hacking enthusiasts), is flashing really that fun? I say I am tired.

4. Geek, believe me, you can also have fun with iOS.

In summary, I prefer iOS. At least for now, Android is not good enough. I am also well aware of the major flaws of iOS, such as the inability to manage files, the inability to transfer things via Bluetooth, etc. But in fact, we cannot use the standards of an open system to require a closed system like iOS. Moreover, I think that cloud drives and the like are now fully capable of replacing traditional data connections.

Let me briefly talk about my views on the native system in Nexus 5:

1. Starting from Android KitKat 4.4, the addition of ART mode has further improved the fluency of the system. The so-called "stuttering" has almost disappeared in high-end phones, and the system's native applications are extremely smooth, comparable to iOS.

2. The virtual buttons are a genius design, and anyone who uses them will know it.

3. The key to Android is third-party applications. No matter how smooth the system is, I can still feel obvious lag when I open QQ on my phone. There are countless examples like this. What is the reason? The fragmentation of Android and the proliferation of pirated markets will obviously hinder the enthusiasm of developers for optimization.

4. The file management is still very messy. When I get the computer, I see a lot of inexplicable folders, which really affects my mood.

5. Google services have been censored in the country, which is a serious deduction.

6. Chrome is not as easy to use as Safari, and third-party browsers do not synchronize bookmarks.

There are also some advantages of each, such as Android's notification center, traffic control, NFC, etc. iOS's icloud synchronization, etc.

Of course, I personally think that Android has a sharing interface that beats iOS. If you use apps like Evernote, Pocket, Instapaper, you will know what I mean.

5. Software Store

I think:

1. Appstore wins in software quality. I have bought several software and games with my own money, and they are definitely worth the money. The paid function of playstore has been castrated, so I won’t talk about it here.

2. Playstore's resource integration and search are very good, you can see it by looking at the pictures. (Although many of them have been castrated)

3. There are also some pretty good things in Android third-party applications.

4. The search function of the app store is rubbish. You often can’t find what you want, and it’s so slow.

The third-party Android market is going out of business for the following reasons:

1. Cannot update automatically (root is another matter)

2. The program has been modified with a signature (who knows if it is safe or not?)

3. Push your sister.

4. Wandoujia mini is recommended for computer applications.

The software store determines the true value of an operating system. I think Android still has a lot of room for improvement. (But in China, Google's stuff always feels weird!)

6. Other cameras: Needless to say, Nexus 5 is a complete loser. But the optical image stabilization at night is a plus.
Battery life: Under normal use, both of them can fail.
Heat: Both are good, but the Nexus 5 lens is sometimes slightly hot.

7. Purchase

I bought Nexus 5 from Google official website, and then CUL shipped it. As a result, I was charged customs tax (crying...), 32G cost just over 3K. If you don't want to bother, you can buy it from Taobao, but I personally don't trust it. For iPhone, I recommend the direct sales store, which is convenient for return and exchange.

Summarize:

1. Both are absolutely worth the money and you won’t regret buying them.

2. For personal use, iPhone is slightly better. My personal SIM card is inserted into the iPhone.

3. If iPhone doesn’t update its screen, I won’t buy it.

4. Android's third-party applications still have a long way to go.

5. Google's own product is indeed the conscience of the industry. I think it is better than Samsung.
