Why bother looking for a remote control? Experience with Orvibo Allone smart remote control

With so many things, it is hard to find what you need. For a home environment filled with TVs, air conditioners, set-top boxes and other electronic products, remote controls are one of these "many" things. Finding remote controls has been a headache since the popularization of TVs. The popularity of smart phones and the introduction of infrared remote control functions on mobile devices seem to give us a glimmer of new hope for "remote control substitutes". Taking a mobile phone to a TV store to turn off the TV has become a popular prank for digital enthusiasts in their spare time. A device that can take charge of the overall situation of home appliances and replace all remote controls is what most users want to see. Now, the Allone smart remote control launched by Orvibo, a new smart home device manufacturer, seems to be the answer. The flying saucer appearance is very technological . At first glance, there is no way to associate Allone with traditional "black or white" home appliances. The delicate flying saucer-shaped appearance is more like a portable technological product. The surface of Allone is a dark glossy material. It is not clear whether there are other colors available. The rest of the part is edged with a smooth gray plastic material, and the bottom is a metal round base. In general, Allone's unique appearance is matched with bright colors. To use the slogan of a popular router product, it is "good-looking wherever it is placed". In the center of the round top of Allone, an Apple-style Home button is designed, including the square logo in the middle of the button, which is exactly the same as Apple products, and the pressing feel is hard. However, Allone has also added a breathing light around the Home button to display the operating status of the device, which can display red, blue and purple at different frequencies, and the information is relatively rich. The base of Allone is made of all-metal material and is very heavy. The detachable design greatly reduces the weight of the main body in the hand after being separated from the main body of the device. It can be seen that the main purpose of this base is to make the device more stable on the table. In addition to horizontal placement, Allone also supports wall mounting and hoisting placement. We can see the mystery from the three screw holes reserved on the base of the device. What is more considerate is that the device also comes with three screws in the package, and there is no need to purchase them separately. Wi-Fi connection is widely applicable . Plug in the power supply and Allone will start working immediately. The device is equipped with a white power plug and a white USB power cable in the same Apple style. The power supply interface of the device itself is a MicroUSB design, so it is probably not a problem to use a general mobile phone charger to power it. Allone is a device that supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n wireless network. To make it work properly, it also needs to be connected to the wireless Wi-Fi environment at home. But Allone does not have a keyboard and a touch screen. How to enter the password to connect to Wi-Fi? In fact, since the early smart sockets, Orvibo has used the mobile phone App to help smart home products connect to the wireless network. After scanning the QR code on the device packaging and installing the relevant mobile phone program, you can start to set up the product. The steps for Allone to connect to Wi-Fi are relatively simple. When the device is powered on, the breathing lights around the Home button flash red, indicating that it has entered the configuration mode. The manufacturer calls it "SmartLink flash configuration mode." At this time, open the configuration interface on the mobile phone, enter the Wi-Fi password in the current mobile phone wireless network environment, and click "Start Configuration". The mobile phone will transmit the wireless network information to Allone. When the device breathing light turns blue, it means that the device is successfully connected to the network. As we all know, Wi-Fi has become the "standard configuration" of every household. Allone uses Wi-Fi networking to enhance the applicability of the device, and the simple configuration process of a few steps is acceptable to people. However, during the experience, we encountered a big problem in this link. The Google Nexus5 phone used for testing has not been able to communicate normally with Allone, which made us suspect that there was a quality problem with the device. The final result was that the problem was solved after we changed to a domestic Android phone. The reason was that the domestic phone was running the Android 4.1 operating system, while the Nexus5 was running Android 4.4 and running in ART mode. Although the mobile phone App can be opened normally in the new environment, it is difficult to communicate between devices. Recalling the communication with the manufacturer some time ago, the other party repeatedly mentioned that the software has been tested a lot and there are no problems in mainstream models such as Xiaomi and Samsung. But Xiaomi's MIUI is Android 4.1 for thousands of years, and the latest system update of Samsung's flagship products has just been implemented. The most orthodox Android Nexus device was missed. Fortunately, Ori Boye said that it would further improve the product, but this also reminds domestic technology companies again that if the hardware products have good ideas, the software part must also work harder. Mobile phones transformed into various remote controls In short, Allone is an infrared signal transmitting terminal, and it communicates with mobile devices such as mobile phones to control network communication, that is, by letting the mobile phone that everyone now "carries everywhere" as a remote control to control the electronic products at home. Why look for a remote control again? This also requires that the mobile phone App of the product is powerful enough. Allone's mobile phone software is called WiWo2, and functionally speaking, this App did not disappoint. First of all, WiWo is thoughtful in the design of the remote control interface. Whether it is a TV set-top box or an air-conditioning device, the virtual mortgage layout is perfect and easy to use. The TV remote control retains the complete number keys while also estimating the current smart TV, highlighting the direction keys and menu, return, and home buttons. The air conditioner remote control is also fully functional. In addition to the basic control switch, temperature adjustment and cooling and heating, the virtual keyboard can also control the wind direction and speed, and adjust various modes including "dehumidification". As long as the user is used to the operation, this "remote control" is completely the same as the remote control that comes with the air conditioner. In terms of device support, Allone is also quite extensive. It claims to support all infrared control devices and emerging products including Apple TV and Xiaomi Box, and supports the direct addition of new devices and new scene modes. The 433M radio frequency signal can cover a 200m² residential area. The performance is satisfactory enough and has advantages that traditional remote controls do not have. How far can new smart devices go? Once upon a time, the emergence of smart TVs and smart routers was still something that made us shine. Now, air conditioners, sockets and even remote controls are all going smart. The great strides forward in the smart home industry will also make more and more familiar products around us wear smart clothes. From our experience of using the Allone smart remote control, we can see that these cool tech gadgets are still for young people. It is not easy for parents and elders at home to use smart phones, and it is difficult for them to accept them. In addition, some minor problems of the products themselves that have not been perfected also require smart manufacturers to continue to work hard. The popularization of smart homes will definitely bring a brand new modern lifestyle. How far can new smart devices go?
